A little noisy but it works!

Easy to install, nice and big. It makes some noise when accessing data. So if you're looking for a quiet drive, this isn't it. However, if it's reliable over the years, I'm satisfied. I buy HGST drives thanks to BackBlaze drive testing. It's a cloud backup service that uses thousands of drives. They track all the reliability stats of their drives and publish reports regularly. HGST drives are consistently more reliable than WD or Seagate drives. None of my HGST drives (there are four in my…

Pros
  • Good value for money
Cons
  • Available in white only

Good economical drives

I bought 3 of these HGST DeskStar drives along with 3 Toshiba N300 drives to use in a RAID 6 configured NAS. My network consultant recommended that I use different brands of drives in a RAID array to minimize the chance of them all failing at the same time. They were easy to install and after more than 30 days of operation, they did not experience any infant mortality problems.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Good but not great

Reliability, speed, price.

I have been a member of the Deskstar drive family for many years. A drive as fast as any other well-known brand and, more importantly, consistent reliability. The price of these discs is hard to beat. You work cool and quiet. I was talking about reliability. I have two table stars that are at least five years old. They are mainly used to store images. I will keep coming back, did I mention reliable?

Pros
  • A dream come true
Cons
  • Hard to say

No problem. Faithful so far so will buy until quality drops

Bought two for 2nd Synology Diskstation. zero problems. Extensive SMART testing performed on both prior to first use using factory drive utility. Hard drives of this size take several days. So if you plan to do this, don't plan on using them right away. Both passed and already had the latest firmware. So far zero errors. Worked fine with 6 4TB Deskstar NAS drives. Two of them have been running for about two years, while the other four are joining the new 6TB drives. They are installed on my…

Best quality and price among NAS drives

If you always use a NAS, then HGST drives are the best quality and value for money. Drive failure reports published by Backblaze show that HGST has the lowest overall failure rate in the product line, and 0S04007 in particular has a very low failure rate. Personally, I've been using them for about a year now and can report that the performance at transfer and read speeds is fantastic, the drives are quiet and cool, and I haven't experienced any SMART or ZFS pool errors so far. In addition, the…

Noisy and not very durable

Bought 2 pieces about a year ago. They make quite a bit of noise when my computer starts backing up to these drives. I set it up on my 5-bay Synology. One of the drives already has bad sectors, I'm not sure I want to risk it for a critical storage. The return period has already expired so I'll probably just delete and reset it - looks like a waste of time. I'm trying my luck with WD red-pro now.
