High-quality workmanship, easy installation, quiet

Excellent build quality. Installing the drives in the drive bays took some time. I took the extra time to evaluate different RAID configurations and finally settled on RAID 10. The software that came with this RAID enclosure made it easy and straightforward to create your chosen configuration. I would say that the documentation leaves a lot to be desired. , but if you take a little more time to read and use the full online manual instead of the quickstart, you will get answers to someโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Support for Windows 8 and higher, Windows Server 2016 and macOS 10.10 and higher
Cons
  • No automatic optimization

9 months later. Better than babies.

I took another look at this article and was considering buying a second one and noticed some dismal reviews. I bought mine on 06/20/2019. It's been about 9 months. It is connected to my iMac Pro via a Quad X Thunderbolt Raid Daisy Chain. Yes. Backups for a day. Anyway, I just want you to know that it's working enough for me that I'm considering buying a second one.

Pros
  • SAS/SATA Hardware RAID Integrated Technology
Cons
  • This worries me

Bought a Highpoint RocketStor 6124V with 4 USB 3.1 bays with the expectation that it would can be installed to transfer data between PC and Mac hosts in a heterogeneous environment. Initial testing on a Windows 10 PC seemed positive as RAID 5 was fairly easy to create and an exFAT file system to create. It was connected to Catalina after the initial setup using a Mac Mini. Mac immediately warned that the four newly attached hard drives needed to be initialized (which of course you shouldn'tโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Storage capacity up to 8 x 12TB hard drives or more
Cons
  • Doubtful

Didn't work reliably at all

I ordered this cable and used it for a day. I previously had the first Highpoint Thunderbolt 3 product with a Gen 4 bay. This is normal, but about every two weeks, a random shutdown will occur that will require you to restart your PC. I am using Windows 10 Pro. I was hoping that this 2nd generation hardware RAID unit would perform better. It's not like this. After connecting and fully formatting drives etc (and using RAID 5) the transfer and read speeds were very good, say in the 1-1.5GB/sโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Additional cables (0.5-2m): TB3-040G-505, TB3-040G-510, TB3-040G-520
Cons
  • Not the best

Solid Raid5 chassis - painful initial setup

(review updated 2 weeks later) I'm increasing my overall rating to 4 stars after 2 weeks of active use . Once I was able to initialize and rebuild the RAID5, the 8-drive 6628A ran fine over Thunderbolt 3 with my MacPro. I'm getting consistent and expected read/write speeds when hard-managing this RAID enclosure with multiple 4k and 8k projects (native RED and ProRes Raw files). If I had the opportunity to work properly out of the box I would give 5 stars. I believe their latest WebGUI used forโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Available with pre-configured hardware RAID Storage: 6628 AM/AW series rDrive, up to 96TB
Cons
  • Weight

I bought 4 new 12TB HGST drives and formatted them and Mac OS recognized them. Not in this block. There is no phone support and they don't even have the courtesy to tell you about it. I searched for half an hour before giving up and writing to them. My first question was there a few days ago and still no answer even though they say they will reply in 4 hours. My second question (how to recognize my drives) is not answered even after 48 hours. I would like to pay for phone support. I don'tโ€ฆ

Connection problems

According to the website, the RocketStor 6124V can be connected to any laptop or desktop computer. Windows PC customers can also connect the RocketStor 6124V via a Type-A port, USB 3.1 Type-A to Type-C cable, or adapter. It didn't work for me with two different adapter cables. Worse, the PC restarted freezes because it couldn't find the USB device it was supposed to be plugged into, and only let it boot when the adapter was unplugged. Really hostile user behavior. And there is no phone support.

Pros
  • Performance up to 2700 MB/s
Cons
  • Too stupid
