Excellent grip and stability on ice and snow!

I hike a lot in the Colorado mountains year round and these crampons are great for extra traction and stability! We've used them on a few hikes and they work surprisingly well on icy and snowy trails (when the snow isn't deep enough for snowshoes or skis). I wear size 9 women's boots and they fit great (and my boyfriend's big boots fit his size 11)! regular Hillsound crampons or Katoolah microspikes) and the added bonus of a strap on top to keep them in place. They also come with a nice pouch…

Finally reliable grip on the track on icy days!

As well as being a hiker I'm also a trail runner so I was concerned how much they would affect my gait. Having tested them on snow, mud and tarmac so far, I can tell you that dry tarmac isn't a great experience, as you'd expect. Oh well. But even on the steepest trails and steeper off-piste slopes, on snow or ice, I now have complete confidence in the traction and, yes, I can still ride it without too much impact. Yes, you can feel them, but they don't bother you while running after you've…

Early honest review

I have used these microstuds twice, about 7 miles total. They are easier to put on than I expected, the rubber stretches well and they stayed put. They felt good on my boots and the extra grip made up for the extra weight. I used XL on size 13 hiking boots. They were used only in negative temperatures on solid snow and ice. I used them on an ice covered rock cliff and they worked well, but I didn't have the guts to rely on them next to a 300ft drop. I last tried them on an icy gravel slope and…

Once upon a time there was an admittedly bad app - more snow than ice

Used 2 times so far. Once upon a time there was an admittedly unfortunate application - more snow than ice, which requires snowshoes. Still excellent traction. The second was for a steep climb (i.e. turns all the way) that was very muddy. I didn't use them on the way up, but I think they were crucial for safety on the descent. It's much easier to slip on the dirt on the slopes. I've never slipped into them and they held up great on rocks (I know ideally you don't want to use them on rocks, but…

  • Not the best

Virtually useless in the snow

These things are light, safe and perform absolutely fantastic on ice and in slippery but flat mud, even when climbing up and down and climbing over fallen logs. If I only made trips in such conditions, I would not return them. However, if ANY amount of snow or slush covers the ice or mud, huge balls will form under your feet. This is uncomfortable at first, but quickly becomes dangerous. I wore them 3 times before throwing in the towel and sending them back. The first time I went about a…
