When I received it I unpacked it and turned it on immediately to see if it would eliminate the smoke smell in my bedroom. Within 10 minutes on high settings the smell was gone. I like it because it's black, small, stands upright and makes the perfect machine with white noise and decent air cleaning abilities. I have to point out that I'm not allergic so the only filter I use and can see results is an odor neutralizer. I only keep it at maximum at night, mostly from 11pm to 8am, if I turn it off until 11pm. I also used total air but didn't notice any difference. This unit replaced an older model that was much larger, noisier and more cumbersome to clean and replace. This is a good sized unit with 3 speeds and 2 settings and is easier to clean and maintain. At first it smelled like burnt plastic. It takes a few days for this smell to go away. The ionizer mode light is not lit. I love these little air purifiers. I have one in each of our bedrooms. They are small, compact and do an excellent job of cleaning the air. I like that they can be placed vertically or horizontally on the floor. Sometimes I move it to a different position depending on where I want to place it. It works fine either way.
