🐠 IceCap Dual Optical ATO: Advanced Auto Top Off Controller for Hassle-Free Aquarium Maintenance Review

This unit has never worked since purchased. The sounds are random - and what's worse, once started it never turns off. The pump is cheap, the controller is cheap, I do not recommend it to anyone. I wish I would come back immediately but figured I'd keep trying to see if I might be missing out!

After only 6 months of use, the device would not turn on. I noticed it had a lousy connection where the power cord meets the controller when I bought it, but I think, well, I'm sure everything will be fine. The device worked fine while it was on, but a waste of money considering its lifespan. -note (this is not user error)

Good ATO. Sometimes it goes haywire and the alarm sounds like there's a problem (maybe some kind of splatter on the overflow sensor?). I do not know why. Constant ATO really helped stabilize my tank's parameters. The best update I've done.

Bought it, plugged it in, worked 5 minutes and started overflowing. I contacted Icecap/Coralvue and after two weeks of tossing around and trying to fix errors I got a new sensor but didn't fix it. Then I got a new controller, worked about a week and here again the same problem with overflow. I am not sure I will buy any other ice cap product again.

This is the most annoying piece of equipment I have ever bought. When you turn off the pump to feed the fish, it beeps (obviously due to the overflow sensor). BUT it just starts beeping multiple times a day for no apparent reason, my wife kept turning it off, was driving my wife crazy. We both hated it, and now, less than a year later, it's finally dead. I wouldn't recommend this to my worst enemy.

I have this set of 20 long reefs (no swamp) in my shop and it works very well! Easy to set up and very sensitive. My salt level now stays constant. The mount and sensors are very small so they work well in a nano tank without a sump. My only issue with it was the pump when I first tried to use it. For some reason the impeller was not spinning. I'm very happy with the performance of this ATO. It seems overpriced, but it includes a pump that most even in the same price range don't have. The fact that it's a complete plug and play system, requiring no programming, is excellent. It sits in my aquarium under LED lighting and works perfectly. The only funny thing is that a clownfish feeding on the surface can provoke it for a few seconds. My guess is that they create enough waves to cause low side fill. I like IceCap ATO. I've had it for a few months now and haven't had any problems with it. Physical installation was quite easy, all components are much smaller than I expected which is good. I have a tank with a rim and I really wanted the top water level to be at the start of the black rim, it took quite a bit of experimenting to get it but now that it's in place I had no problem.
