Inconsistent between sensors

I could not get a consistent value when trying to measure the same thing over and over again. The variability was up to 5/128 of an inch, which was more than enough to ruin what I needed to do. The amount of error depends on how fast I moved the sensor, what direction I moved it, how much pressure I applied to the baseplate, etc. For my controlled testing, I measured the height of the shim with the setting turned on. smooth flat polished granite countertop.

Best performs the task of measuring dimensions.

description says it's good to 0.001 inch. Based on my experience I'd say it's pretty close, maybe a little less. With a measuring tool, that small 0.001 inch accuracy depends on how hard you push different parts more than the actual device. I bought it primarily for tool height measurement to set up an offset table for my CNC machine and it seems to work for most of the time. One feature I'd like to have is a way to slowly increase or decrease. Sometimes you want to do it the other way around…

It does the job

My measurements so far have been very reproducible and consistent and it gets the job done within budget. It works very well for measuring the height of something that is fixed in size, but sucks for setting the height of something that is adjustable. I had to draw a .244 inch high line on some metal parts that were coated with construction fluid. Eventually I got to this place but damn it was annoying. 0.355 0.280 0.245 0.245 Tap 0.165 Ugh 0.480 0.295 0.249 0.2455 0.245 0.2445 Tap 0.1925…
