There are no on/off switches, you first put two AAA batteries in the receiver/display unit and then two more AAA batteries in the sensor/transmitter, to access you have to loosen four small screws (screwdriver included). Let's face it. This is an inexpensive indoor/outdoor thermometer. Measurement stability can be a good thing when monitoring something like air temperature, but this device seems too slow to respond. While the specs state that the temperature data is updated every 10 seconds, I've found that it can take up to 10 minutes to display reasonably accurate temperature readings. Accuracy: Two modules sat side by side on the counter for a few days prior to installation. At times they showed a temperature deviation of about 0.3 degrees Celsius (you can switch to Fahrenheit) as well as a slight difference in humidity.
