The aluminum frame acts as a stand so the roller does not touch the surface while at rest. Soft roller distributes ink, paint, glue etc more evenly than hard rollers do. Excellent for rolling down prints. Non-toxic and latex-free rollers

it's ok but.

Roller not round! If I applied some kind of glue or coating the result would be worse. I use it to press photos that already have glue on the back, so that's fine. Of course it would be great if it was round and not like a potato.

Great creative tool

This hedge is great for cold wax and oil painting and I suspect acrylic too. It's not as hard as a printed bramble, so it accepts and applies ink well. Hard mallets don't seem to hold enough paint to make more than 1 or 2 hits. And softer whisks seem to apply too much paint to the surface.

Excellent Braer - two for the price of one

This is a braer and works as it should. I didn't really need a hard roller, but this set cost the same as without, so I'm keeping it until I need it. Love the fact that it can be taken apart for cleaning, although by the time I'm in cleaning mode it's still stained from my liquid acrylics. Just remember to keep paper, paper towels or whatever nearby to keep it "clean" while you work and it should do its job for a long time.
