Description of Irwin Tools 42412 4 Inch Short: Precision and Performance in a Compact Size

Single cutter and side lip is designed to bore holes in wood where nails may be encountered. Cuts through nails without damaging the bit. Hollow center flute clears chips quickly out of the hole. Ideal for applications where chip clogging can be a problem such as with green wood and creosoted poles. Full-length heat treated bit guards against bending in heavy-duty applications and strengthens the twist where the greatest strain occurs. Short length allows bit to be used in tight areas. Wide lands keep the bit straight as it bores through the hole. Medium-fast screw point is ideal for general wood boring applications.

Extensive experience with power tools and hand tools

I'm an electrician so I drill a lot of holes around the house. I have used this bit on about 8 houses. Drilling very well so far. Remains sharp even after driving nails.

Very aggressive beat!

This thing goes through a bolt. I even hit a few thin nails without slowing it down. It's a bit slow to catch, but once it does, it sets off with a vengeance.

Alternative Garden Drill

I have tried garden drills and they are difficult to use when the ground is not ideal. I had to plant a huge amount of ground cover so I decided to try that too. It worked flawlessly, I didn't have to keep re-tightening the auger and it cut through soil like a knife through butter. If you're planting something larger than a vine, you'll need to drill two or three holes together, but that's not a big deal because it drills holes very quickly. The only problem is that you have to have a 1/2"…
