JessEm template for router spare parts and accessories

I read several reviews and for a long time I could not decide to buy. Well, I got involved and am very satisfied. So far I've used it to cut out a training piece to check any unseen things that might happen before making my final cut. Now I have (I think at least) all the information to make the final cut. The radius is correct and I have adjusted the cutting depth on my router. My next step is the final haircut. As said, this makes the output part of the router perfect.

Pros
  • stable construction
Cons
  • out of fashion

Would it be that hard to give directions?

This item is a template for cutting a precise hole for the router. The hole should be in the shape of a rounded rectangle that goes 3/8 inch into the wood, leaving a flat surface that will hold the router's jack. It took me four tries and many YouTube videos before I finally had to ask my son for help. The template came with no instructions for use. There was enough space in the box to put a few sheets of paper with pictures and instructions on how to use it.

  • Very good price

Creates correct size holes

The template worked well after I received the parts needed so my Bosch router could be used for embossing. I had to buy a set of jig guide adapters, a porter cable guide bushing and a nut. My double-sided carpet tape didn't stick well to the MDF template, so I found another way to hold the template in place. I also created an internal template to keep the router level and to control the width of the relief. I cut out the relief 5/8" wide before cutting out the center. For some reason my 3/4"โ€ฆ

This template is a perfect match for the JessEm 02310 Rout-R-Lift II plate. My only complaint, though more of a recommendation, is that the center of the MDF cutout is also included so the router doesn't fall off center when you do the final fine routing on your routing chart. Check out my video. This shows the ideal depth of cut down the center to keep your router from bending. It's important that you use the same double sided tape I used or equivalent to get an exact depth match between yourโ€ฆ

They made a simple task much more difficult.

I wasn't impressed. This thing is oversized and requires a template socket. Why? Of course I have one the right size, but why not just trim the hole to the correct final size and let people use the template? This simple choice adds 15 minutes of setup time for free. The only reason I can offer this solution is to use the extra radius to mask the visible vibration left in the inside corners by the CNC router that cut this. And since this thing is CNC cut, which JessEm mentions repeatedly in theโ€ฆ

It works and quite simply solves a rather complex problem.

god this thing is expensive for what it is. I first installed it as I saw in the video using double sided tape. I was very glad I decided to practice on a crowbar first, and if you're not a milling specialist I'd advise the same. You will need a 3/4 inch template guide for this project. On my training sample, the tape came off and the test sample was pretty much ruined. From the areas where I made successful incisions, it seemed to me that the tongue was quite narrow, only about half an inchโ€ฆ
