Works well with my Tivo mini

Tivo mini does not have a separate digital audio output, only two analogue or HDMI channels. This adapter allows me to receive multi-channel audio from my old TOSLINK-only receiver. The only issue with the adapter (instead of giving it 5 stars) is that the behavior I've noticed doesn't match the Kanex website documentation or FAQ. The Kanex website states that when multi-channel audio is transmitted, it downmixes to 2-channel audio at the same time. (I was planning on using this for my analogue

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled

This and Chromecast

Before I got the Kanex PRO I used one from J-Tech which I bought in 2013 and it actually looks exactly like this one just with a different brand . But when I decided to buy a second one their (J-Tech) 2014 model was updated (looked a bit different and had 2 RCA outputs instead of 1/8" jack and no digital coax). The worst part was that it stopped working. HDMI output connection is required to receive audio separately. That wasn't the case with the 2013 model. I connect my Chromecast to an HDMI…

Apple TV 4 people, that's what you're looking for

As the name suggests; Apple TV 4 people, this is what you are looking for. I was looking for a device that would do exactly what it does, which is to allow simultaneous playback via HDMI and audio output. I wanted to be able to play my Apple TV through my TV without turning on the receiver, otherwise it would be too difficult for my wife and kids to use it. At the same time, I also wanted to be able to use music streaming apps like iheartradio and play audio through my receiver so it could be…

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Some little things

. I connected the analog outputs of the cable box to my stereo preamp but there was a hum I couldn't get rid of. He came and went, sometimes very conspicuously. Now I connect HDMI from the cable box to this thing and then to the TV and my DAC. The rumble of the earth has disappeared and the sound quality has improved significantly. I was concerned there would be problems if the digital signal coming from the HDMI cable was in surround format, but so far everything I've looked at has worked…

SACD in high definition, baby! best audio and video accessories

I have a good collection of SACDs and I wanted to play them in high definition 2ch on my desktop where real estate is everything. Full-size universal players with analog outputs like Oppos would take up too much space. I settled on a miniature Sony BDP-S6500 ($80) and a TEAC UD-301 for my SACD player and DAC. I needed an HDMI audio de-embedder (extractor) to connect them, but the cheaper model (AV Access) I bought from Revain couldn't handle the high resolution. Enter Kanex Pro. First my setup:

Pros
  • Lots of good vibes
Cons
  • Vulgarity

Poor quality, lots of signal issues, ugly lights, stupid default mode

Finally got around to using it. late return. It is incorrectly recognized as 5.1 in 5.1 mode by two different computers. it lists 5.1 as an option in the sound test, shows all 6 speakers, but no sound is played on speakers other than the front speakers during the sound test. Does not pass a processed 5.1 signal, only a raw DTS or DD stream will play 5.1. Yes, you can do that with one device in 5.1@24bit, 48k and with two different receivers. The device also causes my receiver to make lots of…

Make your DAC and amplifier compatible with Nintendo Switch.

I bought this to use in combination with my Nintendo Switch, Schiit DAC and amplifier. This works with a Nintendo Switch via a coaxial connection, but not without problems. Now and then a crackling sound can be heard in the left or right channel. It's not loud enough to hurt your ears and not bad enough to ruin the overall experience, but it's a downside you might have to contend with when using this device. This is possibly the only real bug I've encountered using this unit in my setup that…

Supports 24/176.4kHz over SACD coax for 2 channel audio

My Sony UBP-X800 only outputs 44.1kHz over SACD coax but I knew it could converted to 176.4kHz PCM via HDMI. I got this to alleviate the problem and it works perfectly without adding or subtracting anything from what I can tell. I have an integrated 2 channel amp which I really like, so for all my digital needs I use a high quality external DAC over coax. There are limitations to this, as described in the Disadvantages section below. You must select the 5.1 channel button (the LED will light…
