Undiscovered *WIN*: Internals

I bought my computer over a year ago, it had 16 gigabytes of RAM. That should be enough, right. I used a memory scan from some manufacturers' websites and the results say 16 gigabytes is the limit. Although I could go as high as 2666MHz. Just for fun and laughs, I used the computer manufacturer's website to run a full system scan for potential problems. The results showed that my motherboard was good up to 32 gigabytes. Many tests stated 16 max, HP said 32 max, so I took a chance and went for a

Almost got ripped off. Make sure it matches the serial number!

I bought 32GB 3200MHz and the delivery was very fast. I completely disassembled my laptop and am ready to go with new RAM and lo and behold when it runs out I find that the memory I got was the 2400MHz model. Also, it's almost impossible to tell until you put everything back together. There are no differences on the real card except the serial number warranty sticker. It must start with "HX4##", pound means MHz. If you bought 32GB, the serial number starts with HX432 and 24 starts with HX424. I

Great internal upgrade

32GB RAM probably MUCH more than I'll ever need to game, but there I finally give myself a gaming rig, even if it's in the mid-range price range. Models, I wanted everything possible to be added. RAM was the last thing to tick off this list after the SSD drive and boot disks. The biggest issue with upgrading my RAM was compatibility. For my specific computer model, the new Dell G7 7590 (2019 version), there was little information. Since this RAM uses XMP profiles, not every motherboard supports

Designed for 2666MHz, but runs at 3200MHz!

I'll comment on something I noticed about this DDR4 SODIMM, but please don't take it as a manufacturer's word. This is just my own experience with the RAM module and I don't promise yours will be the same. Before installing this module, I had another kit that ran at 3200MHz. I had to manually set it to 3200MHz in the BIOS because the XMP profile was not available on that other module. Anyway, after installing this, I booted into Windows and was surprised to see that this was also running at…

Finally 3200 MHz with JEDEC profile. Works in the new ASUS TUF 506IU

I have a new Asus TUF 506IU with a Ryzen 7 4800H and it comes with 16GB of Samsung RAM at 3200MHz. Anyway, I need 32GB as I do a lot of photo editing with large files and 16GB will run out fast. So I found Crucial Ballastix 3200MHz and cl16 and they said on their website that they would work. Well it worked, but only at 2666MHz. Why? Well I thought it was because Crucial required 1.35v to run at 3200. Then I found G.Skillz reading 3200 at 1.2V. No, that would only run at 2400MHz. So I installed
