Tips do not rattle but are not smooth so they feel like sand against each other. The tip tapers are short so the loops don't go up the tapers to the carbon fiber parts as easily as Knitter's Pride Cubics metal needles. The connections between the tip and the carbon fiber are not always smooth, so most threads get stuck at this point. Carbon fiber is a bit stiff. I just started knitting (crochet for over 20 years) and my first set of needles were cheap and bamboo. I personally couldn't stand the feel of wood and its sound.
