Great Front Shocks for Xterra or Frontier Gen 1

Whether you take your car to the grocery store or use it for serious off-road use, you'll love these KYB shocks. They're a little stiffer than the stock, but not so much that it makes for a hard road ride. Off-road, they're stiff enough to quickly absorb front-end impact when you're riding rough terrain.

Pros
  • Hands Free Operation
Cons
  • Not the Best

Great Shocks are the best shocks, struts and suspensions

I live in the mountains of California. The roads here are obnoxious to your car and not well maintained, and I do some off-road driving as well. These are big shocks and they are well suited to these abuse conditions. You can spend a lot more money and you won't get a better damper for your money. I have purchased these shock absorbers before and will continue to do so. I recommend them

Did not fit. in spares

I bought these for a 1999 Nissan Frontier. They were too wide to fit on the carriage. I checked again to make sure I have the correct part number. They were also uncompressed in the box and may have been sent back. They are stiff and difficult to compress by hand. I had to send these back. They turned out to be of very good quality and I was discouraged at not being able to use them.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance

Fiction! The best in shocks, struts and suspension

I fitted these to my '04 Xterra to replace the cheaper (5 ratings+!) ones which were terrible. It made the trip that much better. There's no diving into traffic lights and forward/backward swings. The ride used to be bouncy and those shocks, along with KYB KG4026 Gas-a-Just gas shocks, kept the truck running like new. No more jumping or rattling on big bumps. Now the truck drives very well. Cornering has also improved significantly. I'm glad I spent the money on them. Its worth it. However, I…

Excellent Qualities: Shocks, Struts and Suspension

I installed them on the 2000 limit yesterday and am very happy with them. The old shocks were loose, springy and allowed the truck to sag too easily. These dampers are significantly stiffer, which improves ride and handling on sidewalks and absorbs the impact of washboards and potholes on logging roads very well. I installed them manually with no problems. Again, they're very stiff, but they were easy to compress by going through the back of the forearm rather than the wheel arch. After…

You will be surprised how much this improves handling.

I fitted them to the front of a '97 Nissan Hardbody (d21). These are great shocks, great value for money. The original shock absorbers were worn and compressed easily, see photo. This Monomax is slightly larger in diameter, the welds look good. The accessories that came with it were of high quality. Installation was easy, the hardest part was compressing, but that's the whole point of a shock. Just use your head and maybe some wire. No more difficult than changing the brakes, for example. So if

Pros
  • Shocks, Struts and Suspension
Cons
  • Crumpled

If you'd rather not spend $87 on a Bilstein shock with its very stiff ride, this $50 KYB Monomax shock is a very good value . The lifetime warranty is decent enough, so save your receipts for purchase and/or installation. Because these heavy-duty shocks come with no compression straps (meaning they are not compressed in the box), installation is not a typical do-it-yourself job. Those are very, very hard punches. against the Bilsteins. You will not compress them manually. No way. The only work…
