One of the cheapest routers that works with DD-WRT

I bought this router a few years ago for one simple reason; I needed the cheapest router that I could install the DD-WRT firmware on, and then this router was the one for me. Two years later, the router is still running like a champ. This pretty much makes it a diamond in the rough and gives the router features that I would have to pay extra for much more expensive routers. Of course, the router is limited to 10/100BaseT in its wired ports, but a gigabit switch can easily be bought very…

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Low maintainability

Difficult to install, great customer service

When this router came out I was dying to try it as it replaced a failed D-Link router. Have I ever been disappointed when this one too seemed to fail. It took a while but I finally got it to work through the ports but the wifi couldn't connect to the laptop or kindle which was the main reason. So I called support expecting a big apology. Instead they helped me in great detail and eventually I was able to get this working. The last trick seemed to be to manually select channel 11 instead of…

Stands sometimes - take something else.

Pauses sometimes. If about a day has passed, it won't respond to the login prompt even with a wired Ethernet connection, but at the same time it will work with devices that are already connected. Turning off and reconnecting seems to bring it back online. I also had trouble connecting my Kindle even though it was already set up. That alone makes it a bad choice in my opinion. Also, signal strength is a notch lower than the Linksys WRT54GL at around 30 feet and multiple walls. The WRT54GL may…

Nice router, some glitches

If this setup is the "simplest" of most routers, I don't even want to think about what it takes to go through more complicated routers to wake up. & To run. Linksys tech support is amazingly unhelpful (although you can expect them to insist on selling extended service plans if you're trying to troubleshoot connectivity issues), and the only reason it got 3 stars is the low price Consider the "You get what you pay for" element. My ISP (Comcast) did a great job of helping us connect to the…

what waste!

I ordered this because I was tired of restarting my old Belkin router every few days. Unfortunately, this also needs a restart every few days. I was hoping that by switching to what I thought was a slightly better brand I would get a more reliable or stable router, but it's the same thing. Every few days the wireless connection drops and DHCP stops working. It's frustrating, but I don't want to spend money on enterprise-class hardware, so I guess I'm stuck. Update: This reset issue is happening

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

The first died two hours later!?!?! the second works well

This review is based on both E900 and E1200. We've had the Linksys router for about 10 years now and I've started having speed and page opening issues so it's time to replace it. I bought the E900 from amazon and set it up when it arrived. Setup took longer than it should. He kept trying and he said he couldn't set it up without giving me troubleshooting advice. After playing with it for too long my husband turned to the back of the CD box where there were a few troubleshooting tips saying to…

  • Dope 🔥

  • Expensive

I bought this router for a home network I set up for a family member. They didn't need 5 GHz or anything like that. Only one WiFi router that worked. So far, any issues I've had maintaining this network are not related to this router. I don't use the router every day and don't have contact with it to learn any nuances that might come up in my daily work. I don't think any member of my family would have noticed them if it weren't for the obvious ones. It provides Wi-Fi and provides internet when
