Over Fifty Years Old

Lufkin X46 Red End Six Foot Rule. I've been using this particular model rule for over 50 years. There are other brands but they all seem weak compared to me. These days people wonder what I use and make fun of me for not using a tape measure (although I also carry a tape measure in my pocket now). I hate passing this on to anyone because they don't know how to open it and want to bend the sticks the wrong way. Oops. It used to be a great tool.

I am a 74 year old former carpenter (contractor). My father and I used this rule when I was 14 years old. Then it was a great ruler. It worked great, was very accurate and seemed to last forever. I still have a few old ones that are pretty worn out but still work. I ordered a new one to use a little (I'm retired) and leave it to my grandson. This new rule is a shame. The slider falls out of rule when expanded. The hinges are spring loaded. The wooden parts are bent. The graphics are terrible…

The quality is no longer the same :-(

The Lufkins quality of this product (Red End folding rule with a brass hook on one end and a sliding brass extension on the other end) has seriously deteriorated after 25 years of ownership and love to myself bought one for my son as a gift I had to return it because the sliding brass end slipped right out of the ruler when I used it I got a replacement from Revain with no problems (yay!) but to my chagrin it was opposite brass "end hooks" of the ruler out of order.Second, I decided to get my…
