Nice tool, don't like the balance/ergonomics

I ordered this and then returned and received a Makita XRH03Z. The XRH03Z and XRH04Z are the same tool except for the position of the handle. If you're mostly drilling straight down, you won't need to reach as far with this tool because the handle is on the back of the engine, not under it, and so the XRH04Z is longer than the XRH03Z. However, this length compromises comfort and ergonomics for other tasks. I found the XRH03Z to be much more convenient to use for stripping and drilling at…

Pros
  • Torque limiting clutch to avoid transmission damage by automatically disengaging gears if the bit sticks
Cons
  • disappears

So Far So Good: Drill

Works very well on site for drilling 3/8" and 1/4" holes for wedge anchors and taps. Also works well for 1/2" holes, slightly slower and less powerful than a mains powered punch (as you would of course expect) but portability and no need to pull a cord, or in my case no available power source. , more than makes up for the extra few seconds it can take per hole. I haven't tried anything more than 1/2 inch. Note: I was about to buy a small displacement brushless motor but noticed in its specs…

Pros
  • Faster drilling with synchronized RPM and BPM
Cons
  • No productivity

New product for power drills

Let me start by saying I have never used an SDS Plus compatible tool. So I have nothing to compare. Before purchasing I settled for the regular Makita rotary hammer that came with my original kit years ago. I wasn't sure how much better it would be for drilling, but I decided to pull the trigger, mostly because I needed the chiseling feature. I install a water trap and drill through 2" unreinforced breakout walls. I drill smaller holes where I need holes for 4" and 6" tiles, chisel between them

Pros
  • Field proven shock absorbing handle protects the battery case and increases its durability
Cons
  • New competitors are here
