Great for BAFTS

Although I didn't do the project I bought this awl for, I found a much better use for this awl. AIR CUSHIONS that come with most Revain boxes. However, mine didn't come with the advertised LID! Instead, thick brown paper was attached to the top to protect it. I still have to come up with something. I'm deducting a few stars for that as I bought this one because it came with a lid.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Volume

Perfect but treated with care

I needed an awl to 'dimple' the wood to make sure the drill bit was in the right place. But most awls don't have a sharp point, so I'm not sure what they're good for. Here's a very sharp US made tool that's perfect, but it's also a real gun and I'd happily pay five or ten cents more to get a tip. I think the person at Revain who packs them thinks the same way. Mine just came wrapped in bubble wrap.

Pros
  • Sleek design
Cons
  • Something different

Bought for Ikejime

Bought to ship fish humanely. The bat (sometimes called the Salmon Priest) certainly works, but I didn't like the idea of our 9-year-old daughter (she has Down's disease and is all about LOVE) seeing me smack a fish on the head. So this tool is used discreetly on the boat to pierce a fish's brain (Ikejime was practicing in Japan. You know a thing or two about eating fish!). Haven't tried it yet and needed to print a photo of Fluke's brain (far from the eyes) but for $4 I'll give it a try…

6 out of 5 stars! in Power & Hand Tools

I've had this for about a year. I have no idea why I bought it, probably on a "you can buy this while I ship other stuff" basis. I can tell you it was absolutely worth the money. I thought I spent $8 or $9 but now I see it's only $4. So I think it's worth MORE than what I paid for. Click.click-click.clickety-clack. aaannndd, now I have 2. Yes, I bought another "strong ice ax". Hey, I can't say I have NOT used it on ice. To be honest, this is a very powerful tool that has saved me from…

nice piece of steel - hand tool

The carbon steel in this tool appears to be of good quality - it arrived very sharp and with a little attention and light sharpening it will now cut through fabric and leather with little effort. Not stainless steel so it will rust, polish and leave some oil on if you want it to shine. The shaft is smooth enough to easily open the starting hole to size, and the orange handle provides a secure grip. A wine bottle cork (not a composite one, but a real one) serves as a handy protection for the…
