Quality tool: Tools

As a process engineer with 35 years of experience, I really appreciate the quality of this tool. Since my boat is 14 years old and I'm pretty sure I've never replaced rudder seals, I bought all the necessary tools before getting down to work. Luckily, I don't think I needed this tool, so I can't tell you how it works. My support brackets came loose easily after I removed the nuts.

Pros
  • Super price
Cons
  • Modern

Easy seal change

Easy seal change. I was about to have a replacement gasket professionally installed on my Seastar power steering. After seeing this tool on YouTube. I decided to try and get the job done and bought this tool. After watching the video I followed the instructions there and removed the bolt holding the steering knuckle to the steering with no problem. I highly recommend this product.

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Almost everything is in order

Beware of maintenance consumables

The appearance of the tool is pleasant and looks decent. It's oversized for its intended purpose and will damage and rip out the support brackets you want to remove from the hydraulic steering. Why didn't the designer make it shorter and let the teeth go in about 1/4 inch on either side to grip the back of the bracket. Instead, it digs into the outside of the mount. It's essentially a puller designed to remove a water valve with Marine Tech tools knocked out the side.

Works as advertised

Read bad reviews before buying. I bought this gasket removal tool for my 2005 Yamaha F225 outboard. The brackets were never removed on this engine, which has always been ridden in salt. Water. I think I was lucky because the puller worked perfectly. Both brackets were easily removed. Delivery was quick and the price was half the competition. When using this puller, you must ensure the hooks are centered on the bracket before tightening the center screw. It's easy to go insane if you're not…

Remove steering arm mounts with ease!

I'm not a professional mechanic, but I repair boats myself. If you're wondering if this tool is worth the price, I'd say it's definitely worth it! I needed to remove the rudder mounts from a 6 year old boat that was kept on a sea lift and cleaned regularly. I definitely wouldn't have done the job without this tool. My boat is clean but for some reason those clips are stuck in there! The tool leaves marks on the bracket where it clamps, but I don't see any other way out. I filled the grooves…

Best tool for removing stubborn struts

Removed Sea Star struts from a Project 2000 boat that was used in salt water. I tried everything before I found this tool and it worked in about 15 minutes. He scratched the mounts, but nothing serious and no worse than corrosion. It took a few tries to get it right so it didn't come loose from the mount. The key to success in my application was to lubricate the bolt to prevent seizing and allow the two forks to go through the end of the bracket and be snug against the shoulder; see photos for…

I tried calling tech support and something let us down.

I immediately noticed that the product looks very high-quality and masterfully executed. But the second is used for its intended purpose, it is weak and thin. Definitely more damage done than the tool is worth. I called tech help as I could tell something was going to break, so I stopped before I did any damage. I spoke to the owner and he advised to keep using the punch as it is getting weaker. I explained to him that it was so tight that the puller didn't bend well and he said the worst that…
