Bright at 29 gallons!

I have 18" on my 30" 29 gallon. It keeps the aquarium light bright enough to enjoy all the fish, even the shimmering ones on the bottom. In a dark room, it's like a room light. I also use moonlight which I like to use to watch my nocturnal catfish. I wish him all the best to grow plants! Two Anubias grow, but that's all. You seem fine with that light! I put it on my 10 gallon to see how it would look (as I plan on upgrading the 29 to a planted tank and eventually using it on the 10 gallon) and…

Perfect for what I need

This light is a nice soft white light (in my opinion). I have a 10+ gallon tank that is used to raise fry and the aquascape is minimal: a rock, some sand and a floating plant. Everything looks beautiful, the colors are clearly visible. This light is not suitable for growing plants that need more intense light: the PAR value (18 on the surface of the substrate) is quite low. This is much better suited for low light plants like Anubias, Java Fern and Cryptocoryne. Once these fish have grown and…

Poor spectrum for live freshwater plants

I liked them, but although they seem as bright as the fluorescents I replaced, they lack the red/pink -Spectrum for live freshwater plants. After a few months all my plants stagnated and suffered in low light below, including numerous Anubias which grew and reproduced safely in any other light for many years. The spectrum of light it puts out reminds me of the reduced red you get when diving 10 meters or deeper under water. Perhaps this spectrum is suitable for marine life, but it gradually…

The lighting is beautiful and doesn't put out the heat I have.

Nice lighting that doesn't generate as much heat as my fluorescent bulb. It's interesting to see how different the light is from fluorescent - it's definitely more like sunlight, which I hadn't noticed before. and night mode. Like a slow blackout between them. Control is limited to Off/Night/Day modes. A sudden change in lighting (e.g. default on/off) may irritate the fish for a few seconds. An even better improvement is adding an automatic timer to the sunset feature.

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Big and bulky

Bad design - only 350 lumens!

Two stars because it turns on. Used for one minute with 29 gallons (30 x 12 x 18). It doesn't penetrate and the day setting has a very blue color temperature. I have a Marineland 11" for my size 20 and it shines beautifully! It seems Marineland decided to expand the 11" design to 24-36". It has the same number of blue actinic LEDs as the 11" "-Model! I think it will work with a 20 inch aquarium but why? The 11 inch is cheaper and has a better color. Very disappointed. Sent back and bought a…

Better design but less light than similar general purpose model

I bought a "standard" 20" LED light to place over my tank but returned it after realizing how bad it was constructed and dangerous she was. It slipped out easily and had a very clear warning not to wet the transformer or risk a fire. The general light here at Revain was $31 and after sending it back I decided to get a Marineland 18" LED light for $36 to buy.. Out of the box the Marineland light seemed much sturdier and had a smaller plug than the standard model's large built-in transformer. The…

Basic LED lights, good value for money

I bought the last two models of this light, a 36 inch (for a 40 year old aquarium) and a 24 inch (for a 10 year old aquarium) . i am very popular Both are enough that when I got my new tank I decided to get another set. I bought a 48" for my 55, although a 36 will suffice if I don't want to completely cover the tank due to the expandable sides. These lights are very unobtrusive but still bright enough to really cover most of my area illuminate.Through the glass dome there is a small strip at…
