Don't waste money! Melissa and Doug's disappointment.

Bad toy, especially for a 2 year old! You definitely need to be closer to 4 to understand the shapes as they are too similar. And not to mention the sliding lid doesn't stay put, so if you twist it to find the right shape all the other pieces will fall out! Simply poorly done or critically thought out. Melissa and Doug's disappointment.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Cord is shorter than other picks

Incredible disappointment

I am very disappointed with this toy. The quality is miserable, the toy had to be taken away from my son as soon as it was unrolled because the wood tore. The lid falls off easily when you turn it, so the molds keep falling out with small splinters of wood. This isn't the first Melissa and Doug toy we've bought that has chipped wood, but it will be the last Melissa and Doug toy we'll ever buy.

Pros
  • Weight
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Stickers cannot be removed

I was very dissatisfied with it. When it arrived there were label stickers on all two sides of the cube with no cut outs. I've had to spend quite a bit of time removing stickers from Goo Gone which I'm still hesitant to let go with a kid. I would order another shape sorter if I could do it again. The sorter itself is ok, nothing special. The tree on the cube is unfinished, which I don't like either.

  • Great price
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

Plate slides out too easily - poor design

Melissa and Doug products are usually excellent. The blocks and box look nice, but the lid to take out the molds is easy to open. There is no closure. So if you rotate the box to find the shapes, it would open and spill the contents of the box. I thought of making another hole in the door that stays closed and gluing the sliding panel over it, but might as well just send it back. If the plate catches there and opens with some effort that would be great, but it just slides easily.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Poor repairability

Melissa and Doug don't endorse their products

My child doesn't need Melissa and Doug anymore. I can understand that crafted items can sometimes be imperfect, especially wooden items as they are difficult to craft. But the lack of customer service for defective products after I emailed this company was the final nail in the coffin. I sent them pictures of the broken parts a week ago. zero answer. This is unacceptable in my book. I have other purchases planned, but nothing more. Our dollars are our votes and you just lost mine.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • I won't say anything

Worst M&D toy I've ever bought

I hate this thing! I usually love this brand because it is "wooden" but this one is really poor quality. The top lid is very thin and easy to open. There is also one block per hole with many shapes. Not a big deal for an adult, but frustrating for a toddler who can't understand the difference between a blue diamond and a blue diamond. The parts are not very distinguishable and they should have kept simpler shapes like square, triangle, circle etc. Trapezoid, hexagon, rhombus are not required…

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Frequency

Bad design and badly made.

I am very disappointed in this product. We buy a lot of M&D products because we love wooden toys. It's usually well done, but it's not. First, it is too difficult for younger children. I bought this for my 20 month old and he can't figure out most of the shapes. It was my fault for not paying attention, but I feel like adding an octagon, hexagon and parallelogram would have been too much for this age group. That makes it too complicated, which spoils the fun. Second, wood is cheap. My kids are…

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Some difficulties

It's too difficult for my daughter, maybe it will work for your child.

My daughter got it for her first birthday. This is too far for her. So I used it as a controlled game. One thing I would like to point out is that it is difficult to keep the lid closed. It's too hard for little hands to turn around and find the right hole, and it gets frustrating when the lid falls off. There is no latch or strap to hold it. When the lid is snapped in place, you can turn the sides up and easily insert the figures. So it's a little frustrating. In addition, there are multiple…

Great for 2 to 4 year olds, stay away from younger teethers

I see a lot of feedback that it's too heavy but it's from people who bought it for a toddler or 1 year old to have. The manufacturer recommended age range is 2-4 years and this has been very accurate with my children. They both started playing at about 24 months without much disappointment and my eldest daughter found it difficult enough to be interesting until she was three years old. It's an increase in complexity over the lid-only hole shape sorter, so I'd recommend buying it if that version

Pros
  • Excellent construction
Cons
  • Some minor issues
