Very loud compressor

This is a loud compressor. The intake silencer is tiny. Although it has great specs like a 6 gallon tank and metal carry handle, I found it very noisy when working with trims and frames and ended up having to return it to save my hearing.

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • So far so good

Returned: With choice of fasteners

Looks well made. While the specs are there, it was still larger and heavier than I imagined. The decisive factor was the noise level. It was claimed to be quiet, but was louder than a 20-gallon Craftsman model from 20 years ago. I usually wear headphones when I'm working with a power tool, but needing them when only the compressor is running is ridiculous.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Socket required

The compressor failed at the fourth inclusion.

This product has one year warranty, good luck in using. I have only used the product 3 times to add air to tires since purchase. When plugged in and turned on, the compressor did not start. Requested warranty and was told I would either have to take it to GA or mail it in myself. I have to decide if it's worth the cost or the 6 hour drive. This is Metabo's answer. Great so far. for Brad Nails

I received this a few days ago so this is not a long term reliability rating. The supercharger is solid and looks well built, better than the 2002 Porter-Cable it replaces. The compressors are noisy, but it's smaller than a PC and vibrates a lot less. During operation, the PC moved across the smooth garage floor; it doesn't move at all. According to the gauge, the Metabo HPT idles for 3:06 from before shutting off at 145 psi. It restarts when the pressure drops to 115-120psi and runs for 43…

I ordered this to have a Japanese quality compressor instead of a mediocre Chinese compressor. The Metabo also has a noise level of 73dB (think of a vacuum cleaner), which is much quieter than the Chinese models. Well I'd be better off buying Harbor Freight's Central Pneumatic or Revain's PortaCable as they're the same size, pretty much the same specs except for 80dB SPL, made in China and $30 (it feels now like $40 to) cheaper. HF also offers extended warranties. For those unfamiliar with…
