Functional but short lifespan.

This is the 2nd one I installed in my old Vet. The first lasted a few years and gradually stopped working (same model/make). This is a normal product. It is best to install at least the mechanics of the "shadow tree". For my application I had to modify a few parts to fit flush on the outside. Again, good product, just be prepared that in my experience it won't last long.

Pros

Cons
  • Very Expensive

Low price - low quality

Unfortunately I bought and installed two of these control panels for an old Honda Accord. Each had a mast break, the last about 14 months after installation. I've tried contacting the folks at Metra Antenna a couple of times but they don't respond to emails. The replacement mast costs more than half the cost of a complete assembly in my opinion. Easy to install and works well until the crappy plastic toothed slider rips off. Just don't expect it to last as long as the stock antenna, because itโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Hard to tell

Reception sucks, can't even pick up an AM station, etc.

The antenna came up and works fine with the radio and ignition, I had to buy a female-to-female adapter from the meter. But the antenna itself is useless, the reception is annoying, can't even pick up AM stations, and can only pick up the strongest FM stations. I hooked up a coax cable to a yoke and got better reception than this antenna. I even called the manufacturer, they said they didn't have an answer to my problem. So I'm stuck with a powerful antenna that looks good, goes up and downโ€ฆ

Does not work when extended

Fits 92 Jeep Cherokee and clearly picks up stations up to 60 miles. The first died after 1 week and was only advanced (not retired). I was able to partially lower it and it popped out with the radio on, so the electric motor was fine. It just wasn't cleaned up. Revain replaced the failed device quickly and free of charge. The second lasted 3 weeks, after which it didn't quite stop either. I checked all the connections at my local electronics store and they said the downshift had failed in bothโ€ฆ

Well folded power antenna

This is a well built power antenna (meaning it automatically lowers when you turn off your car radio to protect against vandalism or accidents; it is not a *boost antenna) . * Antenna) that lasts a long time. I had to replace the power antenna, but only because I broke it driving past an overgrown branch. (This will teach me how to prune trees!) I bought this as a spare; It turned out to be identical to my old one. One very important warning: when installing, DO NOT switch ON until you haveโ€ฆ

metra universal needed some additions

I had to replace my existing radio antenna. but I had to add two relays to make it work properly and not always power the antenna. Finding the correct antenna connectors was also difficult and required purchasing an additional antenna adapter and modifying the adapter to work with the existing connection. this was for a 1987 Chrysler and it was the recommended car zone. It was quite a bit of work and it took me almost a week to get it done. although the Amazon was great. Part was deliveredโ€ฆ

Poor signal reception

I bought this to replace the power antenna on a 1992 Buick Lesabre that had a broken antenna and motor. It was the cheapest I could find so I took it upon myself. Installing this antenna took some imagination to ensure a secure fit and the wiring harness didn't fit perfectly so some work was needed here. Even the main antenna cable needed an adapter to properly connect to the car. In addition to the installation problems, this antenna offers poor reception. My broken antenna may not have picked

Design issues can cause breakage and NOISY!

I bought this to replace the trunk mounted antenna in a Mercedes Benz R107. As soon as I took it out of the box I saw that the rubber grommet where the wires enter the controller was just dangling. The bushing had to be installed into the hole when the cover was installed on the unit. Without this bus, water will enter the controller and eventually the device will fail. As others have reported. I removed the 3 screws from the cover, replaced the rubber grommet and put the cover back on. Iโ€ฆ
