It must have been in the early 2000's when Elton Brown recommended the Microplane Zester on an episode of Good Eats. At the time I was struggling to find the perfect parmesan grinder/grater and within days of the show airing I was on the hunt for a micro plan. Turns out that particular micro-grater isn't very good for cheese, but it's served me well for grating citrus peel, cinnamon, chocolate, ginger, and nutmeg for the past 10+ years. My family loves plenty of freshly grated nutmeg in soups…

Made in the USA! in Kitchen Utensils and Gadgets

Yes, that's right. This high quality item is actually made in the United States of America! I gave it 5 stars because I like things that are well made and do the job they were made for and do it well. But wait, that's not all! Not only does it work as intended, it's inexpensive and easy to use. It's better for chopping or chopping some foods and ingredients than others, but it may just be about learning how to hold and use the tool for that item. I said it's easy to use and it is, but you'll…

Every kitchen should have one of these

I recently ordered a 40001 Zester Microplan because I keep having more and more recipes that use lemon, lime or orange zest. In fact, I've used it four times since getting the Cester last week. It had a really good first use when I grated a whole large piece of ginger on it. I've never grated ginger so quickly and effortlessly. I've used it to cut orange, lemon, and lime peels with ease. The chopper is made from high quality stainless steel and comes with a convenient and very durable ribbed…

Destroy the competition!

This tool with sharp teeth is essential for grating hard cheese, chocolate, shallot, garlic, ginger, onion, radish, horseradish, lime, lemon and orange. I haven't noticed any dulling and I use it for nutmeg which can dull the blade. You may need a separate grater if you grate a lot of whole spices. If you've used the 40020 Microplane Black Plastic Handle Zester Grater, this handleless version may take some getting used to. Model 40020 has rounded edges and I have found that some products tend…

perfect for hard cheeses

Exactly the same thing I bought 30 years ago when the plane made the transition from carpentry to kitchen - it cost me $30 at the time and after so many years of use and abuse , it's finally time to replace it - this one is exactly the same as the one from 30 years ago, for only 1/3 the price - what a benefit! There are many shapes and sizes but this is the original, perfect for hard cheeses, nuts, garlic, onions and more. easy to clean, no nicks on the sides and no odors - the Microplane is…
