Milescraft 13190003 1319 JointMate Handheld Dowel Jig - Black/Red Review

I used this mount with dowels, clamps and Titebond III to make a wood worktop. I only use the center hole so the self centering works fine. There are better ones out there, but I don't plan on using them very often, so cheap = good.

I immediately got down to this little tool. The slots on the leading edge make it easy to line up the holes, it's virtually invulnerable to fools. Also useful for drilling straight holes. In my case I had to align a barrel nut with a 2" bolt, with a little help from a square they fit together perfectly. Money well spent, you can't get a device with this level of accuracy cheaper.

One problem I had with using the 5/16" hole was that you can't dry insert all of the dowels if you place the dowels closer together than the width of the Template place the dowels to drill the docking holes as the other dowels go into the bracket. On a narrow piece, you can only use one dowel at a time to drill the docking hole. This is only a problem for material narrower than the width of the fixture. Haven't tried true precision work yet, but holding while drilling can be problematic.

It's hard to believe that this simple hand tool will replace my expensive machined red metal stud fastening system. It replaces my other fancy metal tools I've collected over the years. It's so damn easy to use that now I'm screwing everything up. The tool is durable and easy to hold. It loosens edge to face, edge to edge, for three anchor sizes. Dealing with edge-to-edge misalignment of pins of different thicknesses is not easy, but no single tool alone solves this problem. Save yourself a lot

Great product. I have previously ordered and returned two other jigs because they did not meet the needs of my project, as did this one. Too bad I didn't find it first. PROS: The 1/4" sleeve is actually 1/4", not the 6mm advertised as 1/4". The stop adjustment knobs are much easier to adjust than the screws on other jigs. The side Center line guidance is (at least for me) much more useful than the ruler on other jigs.

Disappointing purchase. This was very difficult to handle as you had to drill with one hand and hold with the other. Also, the bits (the recommended sizes for each) got stuck in the metal pad so when trying to pull them out they got stuck. In the end I realized I had to drill a little, pull out, drill a little more until you reach the depth you want. It's all very difficult when you're trying to hold it and drill at the same time. 4 pins serve as centers for 3 different sizes of dowel holes and cannot be moved so the handle may not be in the most comfortable spot depending on the size you are drilling. Also, I ordered an imperial unit and it had everything except one of the square fence nuts which was metric. The grips were imperial too, so they didn't work as is. Hard plastic, same as Kreg products; The instructions are clear and concise and these products come in a box, just the bracket and the instructions. You need to buy dowel drill bits and centers and drill bit retaining rings if you want a good dowel carpentry kit. I've thought about how to rate this product for a while after using it to drill dozens of different size dowel holes on a number of different projects. In the end I decided on 3 stars. Right in the middle. Here you get what you pay for. Whatever the cost, it gets the job done and does it well enough IF you know what you're doing.
