you live and learn. The base isn't wide enough to hold a lot of yarn, so eventually you have to be careful and make sure the yarn doesn't get twisted under the base, in which case it will become tangled and difficult to pull out. I wrapped about 362 yards in the 3 (light) weight class. So it was just filled up. Also make sure you have a spot with a good edge to steady it. [Update] I had a lot of fun with the winder but the gears shifted slowly inside and now a little over 1 month later it is unusable but the return period has expired.
