The base isn't wide enough to hold a lot of yarn, so eventually you have to be careful and make sure the yarn doesn't get twisted under the base, in which case it will become tangled and difficult to pull out. I wrapped about 362 yards in the 3 (light) weight class. So it was just filled up. Also make sure you have a spot with a good edge to steady it. You don't want to put it on a wooden table as it will scratch the paint on it or chip the wood when you tighten it (and you want to tighten it well). As someone else said, you still have to keep it. for good tension so the yarn doesn't get tangled. It's not the worst but not the best either. If I buy another one I will know what to buy. Worth the price.
