Mountainsmith has never let me down.

Mountainsmith is a brand I trust implicitly. I have relied on their backpacks for over two decades and have nothing but rave reviews of them. Like everything Mountainsmith has, these cases do exactly what they were designed to do. Can't beat the quality for the price or double the price.

Pros
  • Very good price

Know Your Size: Camping & Hiking

This is the correct chart from the Mountainsmith website. Be careful, I bought a medium for Mayhem 45 and it was too big. X Small: Clear Creek 18 / Approach 25 / Spectrum (camera bag) / Scream 25Small: Mayhem 35 / Mayhem 45 / Approach 45 / Borealis (camera bag) Medium: Lariat 55 / Scream 55 / Pursuit 50 / Apex 60 / Lariat 65Large: Peak 100 / Top 80

Pros
  • Sturdy Construction
Cons
  • Slightly Crumpled

Smart purchase! for backpacks, bags and accessories

Good buy! I had a chance to experience this on a rainy ride up the Superior Hiking Trail over Labor Day weekend. Pros: Quickly and easily folds up and folds back into an attached pocket. Small enough to be stowed in various places or attached outside of your pack with the attached loop. Roomy enough to cover your backpack and anything you attach to it. Waterproof! Cons: I actually wish it was a light color for emergencies. Very glad I bought it before my trip!

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Very expensive

Works great, fits perfectly (Gregory Baltoro 65)

Bought this before a 4 day hike in the Colorado desert. Unfortunately I had more than enough opportunity to see it as it rained for about 30 hours. I have a Gregory Baltoro 65 backpack and bought an L in this raincoat. It covered the entire bag, including the bear jar attached to the bottom, leaving some space. It kept my gear completely dry during the storm and was very easy to put on and take off. I would definitely buy again. No need to buy more expensive versions/brands.

Covers my backpack no matter what shape it takes!

I needed a large rain cover for my backpack and it definitely helped! When I put it on, the nylon fabric cover covers my entire pack and the drawstring closure ensures that no matter what shape my pack takes, it stays wrapped up and cozy! When I don't need it, it rolls up and stores very easily and takes up very little space. And of course he keeps everything in perfect condition! Update: It has survived a 30 day hike (2013) and a 70 day hike (2016) since my purchase and works like a charm with

I took raincoats with me on a trip to Thailand. Even in rain showers.

I took raincoats with me on a trip to Thailand. Even in the rain, it keeps the backpack dry. Be careful when putting on and taking off the cover as small puddles can form at the bottom edge of the cover, which can get the bottom of the pack wet. This can only happen in heavy torrential rain because the rain gets wet on the backpack straps or if the cover does not close the backpack properly. The cover also prevents people from opening the pockets while carrying the backpack in crowded urban…

Durable, easy-to-use storage bag

I was annoyed that my Apex 100 didn't come with a rain cover (anyone else old enough to remember when packaging had covers for sale, like tents with flies came). I ordered this although I wasn't sure if it would actually fit in my backpack. This worked great on my last trip, when it rained the whole time. The carrier net is expertly crafted and is part of the case. It's very compact and lightweight. The lid fits the Apex 100 perfectly and feels extremely sturdy. I have repeatedly picked the…

Broke almost instantly - you get what you pay for!

Bought in Medium to use as a cover for my REI Crestrail 65 Pack (I'm small so it's actually a 60L pack). When I attached my sleep roll to the bottom of the pack, the cover was very snug, but the Velcro had to fiddle around every time I put it on to keep it from sliding off and exposing the top of my pack to the rain. If I hadn't fitted a sleep pad the cover was quite loose but could be tightened without excessive material coming out. two weeks of hiking and I had to sort it with tape in the…

Excellent coverage in light to moderate rain

I purchased a medium size for my Sierra Designs Revival pack. That's 65 liters / 3950 cu packed. A medium-sized raincoat goes very well with this. I read a few other reviews and one of them specifically mentioned that this rain cover can only cover the top of the pack down to the shoulder straps and if it rains really hard you can get wet on your back and possibly through your pack. This may be possible depending on the package. However, note that Mountainsmith makes a rain cover for many types
