This is for WAC104

I have read many disappointments about this item. It's easy to set up. This is an ACCESS POINT ONLY. It doesn't have a built-in DHCP server. It has a DHCP client that allows you to connect a cable to one of its Ethernet ports on your home router to get an IP address, and clients connecting to the WAC104 will get an IP address via DHCP from Your router or other connected DHCP server can get your network. In my case I just connected RJ45 from my laptop to a port on the WAC104. I was able to log…

Serviceable but has a few significant security flaws

Not too happy with this purchase. It offers perfect Wi-Fi access, decent signal strength, about as expected. It's not *super* easy to set up, but it's not terrible. It worked for me in about 30 minutes (with my SSID, basic security settings) but I spent another hour securing the device well. I've never properly protected this thing, and that's my main complaint: security vulnerabilities. (1) It does not support HTTPS, only HTTP. Every time you use its web management tool, the admin password…

Wi-Fi chokes after a while

All I needed was an 802.11 b/g/n access point with a built-in gigabit switch. My WRT54GL which is over 10 years old is still running but for now I need 1Gbe to connect the NAS in this room to the desktops. Yes, I could just grab a gigabit switch and plug my WRT into it, but I wanted a cleaner look and fewer devices on my desk. To be honest I don't understand why it's so hard to make a properly working device these days - every router/access point has a ton of bad reviews about it dropping…

Unusable and contains spyware

This WAX204 only allows you to access the full setup three times before registration is required, preventing subsequent wireless network setup and not even showing connected devices . The registration process requires Internet access on the device, which contradicts the advertised use as a hotspot. Registration requires you to give Netgear all possible rights over your data, and I can confirm that even without registration, the device was regularly sending encrypted data to the AWS server…

Setup headache

I bought this to use as a repeater (my old one could only work with a 2.4GHz wireless bridge but I wanted one for 5G so file transfers were faster ). The first problem is that you need the internet when you set up the product for the first time. You need to connect it to another router and use its internet connection to start the installation. The second problem is that you need to create a Netgear account. This is another password to remember. The third problem is that if you want to create a…

Update 2021-08-24This is totally unprofessional and unacceptable. I had to contact support and send documents etc to get them to unlock the device so I could login through their website to access my WAC124. Now, a few months later, the login no longer works. There is NO WAY left to contact support for help. It almost bricked the product. Too bad Netgear put out such a bad design. That also makes me mistrust other Netgear products. I have about 25 Netgear devices at home. No longer.…
