Stability is poor, loading is terrible

The main issue with this router is consistency. I've had this for a few days and it's ruining my speed. When I connect directly to my modem, my speeds are stable and exceed my ISP's advertised speeds. When I use this router I sometimes get my ISP's speed, but at least 5-10 times a day my download speed gets halved and my download ceases to exist. I need a permanent connection for my work and this one didn't even come close. The customer support was terrible, I just had to run one speed test…

A defective product, a misleading name.

The router is behaving very strangely. Frequently disconnects wired and wireless connections. My desktop is connected to my router with a cable and I keep seeing the "cable disconnected" message on my computer. Sometimes it just stops working even though the connections appear to be active on phones and computers. For example, you would see that the signal on the phone is good, but you cannot download anything. Then when I try to log into the router from a computer (wired connection) it takes…

  • Easy to read control panel

Served 17 months then burned out

The title speaks for itself: worked well enough for a not super powerful router. for 17 months. And then it suffered. We got a download/10MB upload speed of 70MB, which we've consistently achieved well through all three parts of the router: 2.4GHz WiFi, 5GHz WiFi, and an Ethernet cable. Then one day it just stopped working for 45 minutes. When I finally turned it on, we were capped at 20MB/0.5MB download speeds on all three. I replaced it with an 'old' router my parents had, a NightHawk 6900…

Pros
  • Useful not only for its intended purpose
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

Sophisticated Wireless Access Point Support

This router randomly lost internet connectivity, which typically took about 5 minutes. Then everything will be fine again. I replaced the router with an 8 port switch and no problems. I tried the router with a different internet connection and encountered the same intermittent errors. Tried the old LinkSys router on this second link and it was ok. I called Netgear. The employee, whom I had difficulty understanding, prompted me to reboot the router. This caused my Wi-Fi connected printers to…

Beware of refurbished units - they ship Charter Telecom versions

Ordered a refurbished unit and received a Charter Telecom router version instead of vanilla Netgear. It's technically an R6300v2, but it has a charter board ID and a blue stripe instead of Netgear's orange stripe. The router works, but the firmware is tied to the latest (old) firmware released by the charter. This board can be flashed with the latest Netgear firmware using the initial ddwrt firmware first and then you can upgrade to the firmware you want. However, due to the Charter Board ID…

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED ABOUT NETGEAR'S WARRANTY AND PRODUCT SERVICE!

Like many other reviewers. I bought the router on May 1st, 2016. Just got my 6th tech support call since I bought it on 3/15/18. The first calls went smoothly as the car was still under warranty. After the warranty, NetGear then tries to charge me for 'support' every time I call back, just like the others. They tried to justify it with food costs and so on. The problem with this ideology is that I have a washing machine, Epson printer/scanner/fax, etc. All my products are in my house…

Pros
  • Handsfree
Cons
  • Waiting too long

Excellent router; Support varies

I love this router. Easy to set up. I really needed an answer to a support question after that. After registering the product and going through some steps to make it difficult to find the support phone number, I really got no help and not even decent customer service. This isn't a reflection of a great mode that's easy to set up. I really needed an answer to a support question after that. After registering the product and going through some steps to make it difficult to find the support phone…

Bitten once again by inadequate descriptions and specifications.

Once again I was bitten by the insufficient description and properties of Revain. The name, description and picture clearly point to the original Netgear R6300v2. Instead, I ended up with a vendor-specific build (Charter Communications) that just isn't as versatile and stable as the unbranded version. It identifies itself with a different board ID, so installing alternative firmware on it is a problem. A regular Kong DD-WRT might work, but an advanced tomato and the like might not - this…
