Setup is a challenge

Having installed wireless routers in the past I was able to get this up and running fairly quickly. However, if you've never done this before, look elsewhere. The "master" setting isn't too smart. In the end I exited the wizard and did the manual setup and everything worked. I also had to update the wireless card driver on one of my old computers to make it work properly with this router. The wireless USB adapter purchased for this router installed without any problems. I'm no network engineer,

Nothing for the average consumer

I bought the Netgear WNR834B-100NAS wireless N router because I was looking for a cheap N router and wanted the added security features. Despite being manufactured in 2006, this device has good security features: you have a firewall, NAT, SPI, MAC address filter option and many other customizable services. The device supports multiple levels of encryption, allows you to choose the channel on which it transmits, and provides reliable signal strength and speed. That's good, now for the worse. If…

Great router when I bought it and still am!

I bought it last year and it has continued to work, it was easy for me to set it up, there were some tuning issues but after that it worked perfectly, I know there are better ones, which are now, but it's still a great router for the price I paid for it so I just wanted to put my 2 cents into it :)

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • I will add later

There seems to be some problems.

I bought this router to work as a wifi repeater. I already had a slightly better Netgear home router model that I use as a base. After following all the instructions to set it up as a repeater, it keeps interfering with my wireless connection. The main thing is to switch off. I'm fine for a short time and then I have to restart or nothing works. I'm pretty sure it's a settings issue and not covered in the manual. I just have to keep trying when I have time. otherwise it remains disabled.

Pros
  • I finally bought it
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

Does it have a top and bottom

I originally bought one of these routers 2 years ago. One day it just stopped working. Thought it was broken, bought a new one. Turned out to be a bad power supply. Not happy with that. Used it primarily as a wireless hotspot but had to slow transmission down to 54Mbps to get it working well and staying connected. It compares well to other routers I've used, but overall the WiFi just sucks. I recently went up to my attic and wired all my rooms to computers. It was dirty work, but it was worth…

Pros
  • Something about it
Cons
  • Not bad

What happened to Netgear?

Netgear used to be my favorite provider. This product changed my mind. Upon arrival, the settings could not be saved when switched off. Fortunately, it can be saved with a hard reset. A wired connection to the router returned speeds of >30Mbps, while the wireless connection crept at speeds of 0.2-0.7Mbps with rare bursts of up to 2.3Mbps. After a night and day of wrestling with this thing, I finally found that I had turned off wmm (wireless multimedia) (not recommended by vendor) and the…

But great wifi router.

Excellent wireless router. The signal is excellent on all my devices and the speed on my iBook and Intel iMac is excellent. I also have a wireless network printer. It also works great. Setup is easy and for the most part there are no issues. but there is one. I also have several gaming consoles that I've wanted to use it with. Like my old Netgear WGR614, this WNR834M works great with XBOX 360 and Wii. However, unlike the WGR614, it COMPLETELY REFUSES TO WORK WITH THE PLAYSTATION 3. I tried…

Pros
  • Regular price
Cons
  • You could choose a newer model

Works fantastic! suitable for networking products

I received a Revain product today and chose it because Consumer Reports rated this model first. When I opened the box and tried to set it up, the CD wouldn't start. I have Vista 64 bit and not all CDs work on my system so I called the support number listed in the support browser that showed up and not only did they get me up and running in under 15 minutes, they had mine Laptop had an HP wireless card plugged in for the same 15 minutes and they also helped me set up maximum security with this…

  • Easy to install

  • No performance
