🔧 Suunto Octane Bands: Upgraded Replacement Strap for Enhanced Performance Review

Purchased to replace the original Ambit 2 harness which is 1.5 years old. I was expecting a lot more from Suunto in terms of the original band, so I decided to get an after sale replacement. Contrary to some other reviewers, I found this strap to fit better than the original as it's thinner and lighter, which hopefully doesn't make it any less bombastic. The strap itself is better than the original Ambit2 strap. However the photo is misleading - for the job I didn't want anything shiny on the strap so I chose this product over all the others. When it arrived the clasp (which looks muted in the photo) was shiny chrome. Unfortunately, I couldn't find another strip that was almost completely black and didn't have time to wait for another product to arrive before I had to go and use this one. Perfect fit for Suunto Ambit 3 Sport. A screwdriver came in handy. The package does not include new screws, so keep the screws that your watch came with. Update: July 31, 2018 The bracelet broke two months ago. Apparently Suunto screwed up with their original band. This aftermarket version was also buggy. Suunto realized they screwed up their original band and released a new version. Don't waste money on it. Buy a new original version.

The low price is reflected in the product. Mine arrived quickly and in good condition. It has a small tool kit for changing the strap, which was a little fiddly but not particularly difficult. The strap is nowhere near as well made as the original Suunto (a bit concerning considering the thick Suunto strap just got messed up and broke after 3 years). I bought this to replace the strap on my 1st gen Suunto Ambit. I am happy with my purchase. If I could give half a star I would give it 4.5 stars. I've been using it for over two weeks now and it seems durable and comfortable. It's a little thinner than the original and the material feels a little more flexible. I like the 2nd retention loop. I decided to take a risk and order an unbranded watch strap for the Suunto Ambit Peak 3. I usually order one about every six months. These can be expensive, as they typically cost $60 on Suunto's website. Upon opening this product, I could immediately see that the quality of rubber/silicone is not the same as elasticity and thickness. Update: The strap lasted pretty much exactly 5 months. I came back from a run this morning, took off my watch and the metal clasp fell off the end of the strap. Now that I have a screwdriver I might buy a Suunto strap. I have an Ambit2 and this replacement strap is not exactly the same size as the original. I managed to work a little on the group.
