🟢 OLFA 9881 RM-SG 18x24-Inch Self-Healing Double-Sided Rotary Mat in Green Review

Love this cutting mat. It's large enough that you don't have to fold the fabric more than once or move the mat underneath to cut into strips for quilting. Just make sure your ruler is long enough! I don't care about an area with a smaller grid (with more lines). I am lost! It's harder to tell if you're on the inch or half-inch marks.

I have a smaller pedestal on my desk for small projects. I have these larger ones for big projects in my workshop. I like two sides with different colors. I appreciate the ruler's markings, but sometimes I carried a metric one with me (perhaps on the back). It will warp a bit if you try to store it vertically, but it will straighten up again after about a day on a flat surface.

I was excited to get this cutting mat, but even though it's the perfect size and has great markings that can be really useful, it smells awful. I unpacked it and in a few minutes the smell spread through the three rooms of my apartment. It's an unpleasant rubber smell, very unpleasant. The mat arrived yesterday, on time, perfectly smooth, optically in excellent condition. Haven't used it yet because the chemical stench is so awful I had to put it on the patio table this morning. Now even my desktop stinks of it even after cleaning. I hope a few days outdoors will eliminate the odor. If not I'll send it back. I recently started sewing and bought a small Olfa rug to start with. When it came time to buy something bigger and more versatile I ordered a different brand, assuming all rugs are the same, and they had a lot of good reviews. Stupid decision on my part, I used it once and ordered it to have this bug replaced. I haven't had any problems with any of my Olfa carpets. Due to the smell I had to return this item the same evening I received it. It looks great (I liked the finer mesh in the middle) and I've made a few successful cuts to test it, but the outgassing is terrible. I didn't even want to leave it in my office overnight so I wrapped it up and put it in the garage to come back tomorrow.
