    My 25 year old Technics stereo receiver suddenly started shutting down so I decided it was time to replace it. This Onkyo TX-8255 Stereo Receiver is an inexpensive, no-frills, old-school stereo amplifier that delivers 50W RMS per channel into 8-ohm speakers.     quality manufacturer! GREAT deal for the price!

    Bought this unit to replace a very old ONKYO receiver that eventually died. The intended use is to act as "home theater" sound in addition to powering my other inexpensive stereo components until I actually upgrade to a flat panel system. So far I am VERY happy with this device. The AM loop and included FM wire antennas ensure clear, crisp reception.     Good receiver, but not for every sound system

    My first impression when buying the TX-8255 was that it was a solid 2-channel receiver. I bought it to replace the old Yamaha unit that died after more than 10 years of service, for 2 channel home acoustics where I have 4 speakers for one channel and 6 for another. Each pair of 8 ohm speakers has a volume control, so the range of impedance the receiver sees is clearly quite wide. The high build quality of the speakers was very impressive.     Great basic receiver at a very good price

    I have had several Sherwood receivers in the past and they have not worked for me. All have the same shortcomings: 1. They stopped working after about a year for unknown reasons.2. Volume controls are unreliable. The volume sometimes gets much lower when you try to crank it up. Sometimes the volume is greatly increased when there is no one near the receiver.
