Openfiler - Great software with potential

Fast and reliable. Free version is great for small setups. Easy to use. Just like a normal linux distro. The UI is a bit messy, but it's just a matter of time. There is no GUI for configuration and management of openfiler. You have to use the command line. There are some tools to help, but they are not as easy to use as the CLI. For example, you cannot easily create a snapshot of a running openfiler instance. I have to create a new openfiler instance on a different server and take a snapshot. I

Pros
  • Very fast
  • Reliable (we've had 0 downtime with this setup)
  • Great support when something breaks/fails out because there will be at least 5 techies in chat helping us over 3 continents :)
Cons
  • Not really suitable if we need high availability or redundancy
  • No proper gui available

Very Pleased With This Software Product

It has been very simple to use with no glitches or errors, all in one place. I have never used any other backup software so there are not many "bad" things about this program but i will say it should come packed with more options for different types of business. The cost can be high, especially if you need multiple hard drives per computer (this would be required by my office). If your looking for something extremely easy to setup and run without problems then please give OpenFiler a try…
