I love it! Great HDR picture for little money

Not being able to go to the cinema this year annoyed me so I spent a lot of time researching this projector. 4K projectors are still a bit expensive and most of them aren't 4K anyway as they use pixel shifting for double or quadruple the number of pixels. I decided that a 1080p projector that could accept a 4K source and support HDR would give me the best bang for my buck. This projector did not disappoint. Super bright laser and I can see it in my bright living room with no shadows. At night…

I recommend this projector at a reasonable price

I have bought several projectors and tried 2 others before but this was EXACTLY what I was looking for. It works when the light in the room is on. I installed this in my garage where I had 4 LED lights and a garage door light and you can still see the picture. It's better if you can turn off the lights just above the screen, but can be used if you can't. The picture is fantastic. I hooked it up to a surround sound system so I can't say if the sound is good. I've heard people talk about the fan…

Buyers beware of false lamp life claims

This projector is mostly quiet and looks good, but don't believe the 15,000 hour lamp life claim like I do. A year and 1 month after purchase, the lamp was defective. And guess what. The manufacturer gives a 90-day guarantee on the lamp. I did a little math and if it had run a full year it would still be less than 9000 hours. So they might as well say it lasts a gigillion hours if they don't have to back it up with a warranty. Knowing that incandescent bulbs are the weak point of projectors, I…

This is a great projector especially if you use it for gaming. I was so impressed that I gave up the television altogether. He's super bright. Excellent response time. Enough features. I have a Fire Stick, Chromecast, PS4 and a direct HDMI connection. But. He has trouble shaking hands. It's not the end of the world but it's so annoying that I contacted Optoma customer service to see if they have any solutions. I've encountered mentions of this issue in several reviews, including Projector…

Laser Compromise: Video Projectors

This review is for the Optoma HZ39HDR. On paper, this projector ticks all of my boxes. This is a gaming projector with low input lag, 4000 lumens of brightness for ambient viewing, and a laser source for years of projector performance. All from Optoma for $1199 (my price). The sad reality is that you have to make compromises. It seems so. I have returned and rejected two of these projectors. Both projectors had issues with focus uniformity. This means that the entire image cannot be focused at…

Disappointing in many ways

I've been using DLP home cinema projectors for 15 years and this Optoma HZ39HDR is the first to really have had problems with early use. It's also the first projector where I could easily see rainbow artifacts. This is most noticeable when scrolling through content like media carousels in the Netflix app. However, it's not the rainbows that bother me the most. Contrasting details are somewhat smudged. This is clearly evident in the app's white subtitles and some UI elements, which look…
