Cope with work. excellent

I read the great reviews and bought this tool. He definitely lives up to his reputation. It is well made, fits very well and behaves flawlessly under load. He quickly removed and installed the pulley (in my case a 3.8 liter Mustang). If only he could remove the stubborn residue from the water pump seal. Great product! Don't even think about saving $20 for a cheaper tool. You will definitely get what you pay for.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Not bad but...

That's what you want

This is the style you want. Don't get the look with two crescent moon pieces held in place by a halter collar. I replaced my power steering pump with the defective part and had to remove it again. I had to remove the pulley several times and the poorly designed versions kept slipping off and I ended up buying them. It's MUCH safer and the pulley was removed in minutes with no screws.

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Some difficulties

The withdrawal sleeve is made of unhardened steel.

I wanted to give more stars. As the name suggests, the bushing you use to tension the pulley is soft and will deform the first time you use it. Now he wants to lean to the side with every move. This important part should at least be hard. Since there is nothing in the kit apart from a blister pack, 3 stars. It worked and worked but now it damages the pulley when used to pull.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Long delivery time

Did the job first time -

I was a bit shocked at first to see that this OTC tool was made in Asia, but I tested it on a very rusty/frozen GM power steering pump pulley that the tool already suggested kit for a puller/installer I had and then broke one of the jaws of my Pittman arm puller. There is a hole on the side of the tool to insert a rod or bar that will be held as the bolt is rotated. I lubricated the threads with lube before placing the pedal on the metal. A really hard turn made a bang, so I knew it wasโ€ฆ

Worth the money compared to reduced models in the tool trade

Phenomenal product. Really worth the extra cost. I bought it after it was cheap and bought it at a discount store. YOU KNOW WHAT. It damaged my power steering pulley and I couldn't remove it from my '94 Mustang. So much for only $20. Well, $20 plus the cost of a new pulley which is $85 on eBay today. Well I paid $40 for an OTC puller and it was quick to put a pulley on my car. The damaged pulley flange didn't fit and the OTC puller did the job, the pulley popped and snorted the whole timeโ€ฆ

Save yourself a big headache!

This tool removed my power steering pulley in about 5 minutes. I lost a whole day using a cheap pulley with a bushing made from scratch. It damaged my pulley which I had to replace and ended up costing me a lot more time and money. EDIT - My new power steering pump came with the pulley already installed. I had to remove it so I could connect the high pressure line. The cheap black sleeve billowed out when pulled. I contacted OTC and they said it was because "the pulley was confiscated". It wasโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not the best

Great compact tool, fits steering and suspension tools

Love this tool. I was going to order a set in a suitcase which would take up too much space but this thing takes up less space and does everything I need. Easy to remove and install pulleys. A couple of notes, as another user said, the face of the tool is a bit thick to slide over the pulley so I used a roller sander to just skim off the texture and smooth the outside of the face and now it is fits perfectly. Took about 30 seconds with a Roloc wheel. Also, there is a hole in the puller portionโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Slim design

Well done - Here are some much needed Northstar info pics

Update 10/6/15: I just replaced the valve cover on a Northstar V8 - wow that job sucked! It takes a while, but it's doable. The rear takes the most time, but to remove the front I had to loosen 2 engine mounts and tilt the engine backwards. Ultimately, the OTC 4681 is not the ideal tool for this job for two reasons: 1) The flange that grips the pulley is too thick - I had to grind .020" from the bottom for it to fit snugly. pulley groove. It's easy if you have a knee mill, but I bet most people

Pros
  • Lots of good vibes
Cons
  • Safety
