Misleading Claims of Protection - Your phone is still fragile

I bought this case specifically because my friend is constantly on the road and going through swamps, deserts, etc. for work. I have the toughest case on the market. He stepped into the water which was deeper than he thought and the phone was covered in water for about 5 seconds. There was water in the suitcase and it took forever to pull the suitcase out to dry it. Despite putting the phone in rice right away, it didn't even turn on after two days. The best case for protection stays where I put it, but there was a small problem.

This will be my 4th or 5th Otterbox iPad and iPhone case and while every member of my family (with other cases) has cracked (or smashed) a phone, I never have! These cases are sometimes criticized for being clunky, but they're certainly functional, and if keeping $600+ devices from breaking isn't a top priority, I don't know what is.
