This was a lifesaver with car stereo and home theater

If I only had 1 tool with an audio system it would be a no-brainer! It may seem cheap and basic, but the functionality it offers is wonderful for the price! Of course, he does simple things, but such a universal solution is extremely rare. 10/10 would recommend anyone looking to work with any audio system to check polarity, RCA connection, crossovers with tones and other uses.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Not sure

Famous polarity checker

The tone generator is a square wave generator. The knob moves linearly in frequency, not logarithmically, so there's no resolution for low frequencies anyway, even though it produces sine waves. This cannot be used to test anything other than whether the speaker is working or not. Works as a polarity checker for speakers, but will also take a 9v battery and alligator clips.

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Out of fashion

Expensive but worth it

I just received this tester and used it for the first time yesterday. I have been tracking ceiling and wall speakers and speaker wire polarity in a large wall/ceiling system I installed when we built our house a few years ago. This little tester saved me HOURS connecting the wires to the flashlight battery I was using. The tone generator perfectly determines which wires go to which speaker. As I said, it's expensive but I wish I'd bought it sooner - it would have saved me so much time and…

  • Big and bulky
