I purchased this lock in early August and installed it on my barn door. By mid-October, the mechanism was rusted, making locking and unlocking difficult. Decided to grease the lock. I used PTFE. Now it seems to be running smoothly again. However, I wonder how often I have to go through the lubrication procedure.

The lock is used outdoors and the cylinder will rust, making it difficult to turn the key. I just hope the locking pins don't freeze completely. The key is sometimes difficult to turn. (see photo) Update: March 30, 2021: I had to pick the lock to get this lock off my gate. The key wouldn't turn no matter how hard I tried. Using this outside in Seattle weather was a huge mistake. Brand new out of the box, none of the 3 keys fit into this lock without much fuss and I mean LOTS of jiggle and squeeze. Once in the lock, it opens easily, but I honestly have a feeling I'll break these tiny keys with the kind of force it would take to just put the key in the slot in the lock. I even oiled the lock several times but it didn't help at all. Very bad lock where I could get my money back.

*edit* I just checked my lock after 5 months and we found rust. After opening it, it is now unblocked. Don't worry if you store it outside. This is a good strong lock that comes with 3 keys which are great for keeping one for yourself, giving to someone else and generally storing one in case you both lose the keys. .So far I have kept it on the back gate and its color. The sun does not overheat, which is also a big plus.

Like many others I bought this for outdoor use because it was advertised as waterproof. I finally went to open this damn thing today and the keyhole was completely covered in rust. I drilled through it to pick the lock and found that the underside of the pins were also rusty. This was left outdoors in a spot that was exposed to light rain but was also lightly covered. It didn't seem to matter. Complete junk and sold with false advertising.
