A minor modification may be required. Suitable for do-it-yourselfers

Battery charging is not for beginners. I had to change the internal structure to make the device stop burning constantly, which quickly drains the battery. The modification consisted of bending a strip of brass that is part of the electrical switch. The unit should turn on when a slide is inserted into the viewer and turn off when the slide is ejected and the pusher arm is retracted for the next slide. After completing this operation and after several attempts to bend the brass strips properly,

I bought it to view Kodak 35mm slides in cardboard.

I bought this for a Kodak 35mm slide show in cardboard frames. It serves a purpose. Once you develop a hand motion rhythm that avoids clogging in the discharge chute, mechanically it seems to work the same as the original version I used 30-40 years ago. The backlight is fairly bright, although some unevenness in the light intensity from the light source (incandescent bulbs) is noticeable. The inner surfaces between the slide and the lens are made of smooth black plastic and create peripheral…

Good news and bad

Looking at slides is fun. The picture is a good size for the money. Lost a star in 3 areas: 1) Inserting batteries (2D sizes) is a headache**! Instructions for this process are sparse - and bending the contacts that light the bulb is easy to accomplish when attempting to reinsert the battery holder into the device. 2) The recommended transformer is a great idea - it avoids the battery problem. BUT - it is not available from Revain or this vendor. It should be available "soon". And of course…

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Boring packaging

Slides, slides everywhere

After reading some reviews I bought a pan view adapter. I have several thousand slides that I review, sort and discard while waiting for a select few hundred slides to be digitized. My slides are stored in 10 filled Kodak carousels, 1980's metal trays and several cardboard mailboxes. I set up a kind of conveyor belt on a long table. First, I fan out as many slides as will fit on the lightbox. I can immediately determine which ones to throw away. for example, the 1973 Grand Canyon carousel box…
