Plate Magnetic Stirrer Mixer Control Review

My device does not move without heating. The heating light was off, but the plate was heated to the maximum temperature each time stirring was turned on. Tests with a multimeter showed that every time the agitator is switched on, full voltage is supplied from the circuit board to the heating element. I know very little about heated stir plates but how difficult it can be; This is a rotating magnet and a heater (probably resistors or a coil with a thermostatic switch). I bought this product for my child's science fair project. It's generally "good enough" for the money, although I'd like to share other reviewers' concerns that this product is poor at regulating/maintaining temperature - at least in cold temperatures. My daughter had to keep the temperature of the liquid at around 45°C. A rheostatic temperature controller is incapable of maintaining a temperature close to room temperature.
