Not for professional work or permanent projects

This clay, like most other sculptors, is brittle and fragile. Fimo needs to be strong and flexible. All my creations broke during shipping and I was so confused when I saw people breaking their creations in half without breaking! After doing a little research I found out that Sculpey is one of the few polymer clay that will crack and crumble if not looked at properly. It may be suitable for children, but DO NOT use it for permanent or commercial projects!

Too dry, not smooth at all

felt drier than usual upon unpacking. Texture is stiff and not as smooth and easy to shape as it should be. It feels like it's been left out and exposed to the air for too long. It doesn't fit me and trying to shape something is extremely difficult. I hope it was just a bad batch because judging by most reviews this is a good product. Such a crap!

My choice for sculpting

I love this brand of Super Sculpey. If you want to sculpt a smaller object that you need a lot of detail on, by all means use a solid gray color. The firm consistency allows for the addition of fine detail and surface texture unlike a traditional sculptor. My only problem I found was painting the kiln dried stucco. As this is a type of vinyl you will need to use a water based acrylic primer on your sculptures or you will find that the paint remains tacky and does not fully cure. But this is…

Disappointed with this experience but happy with Skulpey and Revain

Received this shade of gray recently. When I opened the box, it wasn't even wrapped in plastic. It was stated to be hard, but the other hard clay I have is much more malleable. It takes all my strength to soften it enough to work with. I love all the other tone I got from Sculpey but this wasn't a good experience. I am wondering if this could be a returned item and Revane has not verified that it was properly packaged. I will definitely buy Sculpey again. Nobody is perfect.

Take a clinical thermometer! best in Clays & Doughs

There were some initial issues with the material becoming weak after baking. Did some research and oven temp is a big issue. I bought an oven thermometer and checked it. My oven runs around 30 degrees Fahrenheit. lower than set. Adjusted the baking temperature and now I'm impressed with how durable this material is. It's quite hard at first and a little crumbly, but once you start working with it, it softens nicely. I wonder how soft and sticky other types are. In any case, great product…

Great for sculptures!

So I've been using this product since I started learning sculpting. This clay is much harder than regular polymer but I think you can get more detail from it. You need to roll it a little to make it soft before using it, but after that it stays soft for some time, moves very easily and fixes the details easily. After you finish shaping, bake it in the oven and then you can paint it with acrylic paints. I've also seen people drill into it after hardening to add more detail to a sculpture or…

Easy to use.

This was my first experience with Super Sculpey and sculpting in general and it was surprisingly easy to use. Clay is easy to roll and shape by hand, and you don't even have to leave it in the kiln for a long time to set. I think this type of sculpting clay works best for the detailed pieces that just fall off the detailed sculpting I've done before. If you are working on something larger, I would recommend using old aluminum foil to fill in as much of the core as possible so you can bake your…

Super Sculpey Firm and Medium Blend

Super Sculpey Firm and Medium Blend feels and acts more like "regular" modeling clay than any other polymer clay I've tried. Compared to Honey Blend, Firm is initially more difficult to knead. After conditioning, however, it can be processed softly. It handles a little better without deforming than a medium compound, can carry a little more dead weight, and cuts a little better too. It mixes just as well as a medium blend. Although it is stiffer initially, after conditioning it will be…
