Decent tool for the money

Overall a nice tool for the mo ey with o e shortcoming. The bore is extremely rough and makes pulling the plugs difficult. I used some sandpaper and smooted it up a bit and it helps. Overall pleased for the cost.

Pros
  • Does the job for les $$
Cons
  • Immediately broke during first use. Weak weld between components.

Design Flaw good for me

This did not work well for me. The dirt is almost impossible to get out and in trying to push the dirt through with a stake, I sliced my finger on the raw edge of the opening in the middle of the probe. All this and it collected no more than a tablespoon of dirt.

Pros
  • Built with high-quality heavy-duty 304 stainless steel metal to last a lifetime and provide accurate results
Cons
  • May not be effective in sampling soil in hard-to-reach areas

Average probe best in my review

Simple probe that was easy to use, but didnt work well with more clay like dirt. I liked the handle which made it easier to pull from the dirt. It think it was over priced.

Pros
  • This soil sampler probe is backed by a satisfaction guarantee, ensuring that you'll be completely satisfied with your purchase
Cons
  • May be too cumbersome to transport between sampling sites

Difficult to use--New England lawn soil

Fairly well built, skimpy welds though haven't yet been an issue. It wasn't easy to yield a complete core. Either, it crumbled in the process and/or was broken during removal. I don't know if it's a result of New England soil, but the core was so packed in the tube, I had to push hard from either bottom or top with a dowel and sometimes 16 penny nail. I was taking approx 2 dozen samples of a 2/3 acre lawn and it took about 1 1/2 hrs. My hands were pretty beat up wrestling with the cores. I…

Pros
  • I like this product. It was used to collect soil from the yard to do a soil test.
Cons
  • Small diameter probe so you better take a lot of cores to get enough dirt to actually test

Difficult to use: my feedback

This is the only soil core tool I have used, but I would have thought it would be easier to get the sample out. It may be the fault of my soil, but I have tried in both wet and dry conditions and the core compresses when I press the tool down, then won't come out.

Pros
  • Gardening & Lawn Care
Cons
  • May not be suitable for rocky soil conditions

Total waste of money

Like some other reviews state, the inside of the tool is incredibly rough and holds the dirt. The cut on the side of my probe wasn't straight and the first time I put the tool into the soil, the whole tool snapped in half as there was a weak spot.

Pros
  • It could use a handle but I added a plastic one on the end and it worked perfectly.
Cons
  • Stainless steel core may become dull over time and reduce effectiveness

Cheaply built for my opinion

For loose or garden soil this will be fine. For anything else. Try something else. Broke in less that 2 minutes. No full weld, just tacked together.

Pros
  • With easy-to-use test bags included with this tool, you can quickly and easily gather and test soil samples in the field
Cons
  • May not be suitable for precision soil sampling in agriculture

Made for young gardeners?

Junk ! Broke the first time tried using ! The handle broke off the collection tube . Seems to be like a child’s toy for playing scientist /gardener .

Pros
  • This product is heavy duty. I'm impressed with the quality. Works great as well
Cons
  • This is not worth the money & bent on my first try using it

Rough product, unfinished

What is there to say it's a laser cut tube. None of the flash from the laser cutting process has been cleaned thus making it a sharp nightmare for anyone that does not wear gloves. A quick go over with a flap disc on a angle grinder has cleared away most of the sharp flash but some is only able to be gotten with a round file. I would not buy this again if I known how unfinished it was. The end where you cut the plug is also very blunt for how sharp the inner burr is.

Pros
  • Plant & Soil Monitoring
Cons
  • May be too expensive for casual gardeners

Easy to use - my new review

If you want to easily get a proper soil sample, you need this! Gets the sample from top to down at roots. Only leaves a small hole (that disappears)

Pros
  • Whether you're a golf course landscaper or a backyard gardener, this soil sampler probe is the perfect tool for getting accurate soil data
Cons
  • May require specialized knowledge to operate effectively

After smoothing the inside of the tube it worked well

I had the same problem as others: it simply compacted the soil and left a hole (soil did not go up the tube). From the advice of a different purchaser, I filed the inside of the tube (which was very ruff) and after that it worked well. I push it down and use a rubber mallet to drive it down further. I would give it a five if they finished the inside of the tube during the production process.

Pros
  • The contractor-grade design of this soil sampler probe ensures that it will stand up to heavy use in a variety of environments
Cons
  • May not be suitable for routine soil testing

Compact and gets the job done.

Did what I needed it too. Super compact which is nice. Only down side is you need a hammer to drive it in and the top cap is plastic. Other than that great deal.

Pros
  • This tool is incredibly versatile, making it perfect for a wide range of applications, from gardening to agricultural research
Cons
  • May not be effective in wet or saturated soil conditions

Perfect for lawn soil samples

Excellent quality and value. I purchased this specifically to take lawn soil samples. So many other probes I looked at were considerably more expensive. I didn’t want to spend that kind of money for a probe to take simple lawn soil samples. This was perfect.

Pros
  • The 12-inch length of this probe makes it easy to reach deep into the ground to collect the most accurate soil samples possible
Cons
  • May not provide enough depth for sampling at levels below the root zone

Poor cores best in my review

Used it about twenty times with wet and dry soil and cannot get a nice core. Just compacts the soil in the tube. Even tried pushing the probe all the way into the ground only to have a 1” of soil stuck in the end. Maybe it needs a larger ID.

Pros
  • The simple, intuitive design of this tool makes it easy to use even for those with limited experience in soil sampling
Cons
  • May require additional components for accurate measurements

Does the job in my review

I was honestly looking for the cheapest probe possible and this one has done the job. I used a hammer to push it way down into the soil and just tapped the dirt into my collection bags. Worked fine, seems to be solid.

Pros
  • Easy to use and perfect size for the home owner
Cons
  • May not provide enough depth for deeper soil samples

Broke in half - my new review

I used this device for a grand total of maybe twenty minutes before the welds holding the bars together broke. Piece of garbage, and for some reason, I'm not able to get a refund. DO NOT BUY.

Pros
  • Does exactly what it's supposed to
Cons
  • Heavy and difficult to maneuver for extended periods of time
