Makes great sandwiches

Ideal for toasting bagels and sandwiches in a stove top pan. This gives an even downward pressure to bring the entire surface into contact. I had no issues with the grip overheating. In general, this is exactly what I expected when I ordered.

Surface Bottom is not flat

I like the weight of this product but there are deep ridges on the underside which I believe leave grill marks/grooves on the meat. It doesn't press the meat against the pan to cook it evenly. The ribs are approximately 1/8" deep and spaced 1/2" apart. I figured it would be a flat press I could use to keep the bacon from curling in the pan. It would be ideal to reheat this if you want to put grill marks on the meat.

Large Bacon Press

I read some negative reviews and decided not to give them much importance. When I received the press I immediately washed it in warm soapy water, then placed it in an iron pan and heated the oven. Dry in less than 5 minutes. I oiled it well and turned it into a frying pan along with the pressing part. A week unused, not checked. As I pulled out the weekend breakfast pot, I checked my abs. A well-made press all round.

The weight of the press is decent. A little more bulk wouldn't hurt though. The grip is chunky, which is good, but the wood finish felt rough. Wiping with steel wool did nothing. The iron was coated but there was some rust. Once cleaned and seasoned, this should last a lifetime. A star was deducted for the way the handle was attached to the base. The screws are driven into the end wood and if they are washed, as unfortunately many do with cast iron, the water will eventually expand the raw end…

Good ribbed surface, high weight

Some aspects of this weight determined my decision. The size (8.75" x 4.5") allows it to fit perfectly in the bottom of a 12" skillet. It's also perfect for a grill pan.
