My daughter recently got a hamster and as anyone who has a pet like this knows you need some sort of saucer or wheel for the pet to keep walking be able. YES, MESH WHEELS CAN FIT - FOR MICE. They cling to the mesh with their toes as they run and don't get tangled. In fact, I think my mice prefer mesh wheels over hard plastic - they'll probably feel more confident if the wheel is going faster than their little legs and they're spinning over the top.
