Works well with spare parts

Works like a charm. Worked great on my twin springs. Couldn't have been much better. Much better than the cheap old school split fork spring compressor. I recommend this product.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons

Poor material - replacement parts

It looked reliable so I ordered this to replace my tired Lisle compressor. Unfortunately, it's made of that oily, soft, mysterious metal that's used to make many tools made in Asia. The frame itself bent when first used. I installed about 150lb saddles/300lb open springs on the SBF head. The grip and compression mechanism feel solid and fairly well made. The frame is too soft!

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Reliability

Will not work on VW air-cooled heads.

I like this valve spring compressor but it doesn't work on VW air cooled heads. It’s strong, the lever pushing down on the dual-valve springs with ease. It would be nice if it had interchangeable heads to accommodate different spring diameters and room for different types of heads. I would give it 5 stars but it doesn't fit VW air-cooled heads. Now I have another tool and it's ok.

  • Everything is fine!

Well worth it.: Engines and Engine Parts

I had springs that I needed to install so I went to my local auto parts store and used their loaner tool to remove/install cylinder head valve springs. Guys, he didn't even move the springs and the tool even popped out and cut my finger. So I decided to bite the bullet and buy this tool so I can move. That changes the rules of the game. I removed the springs and installed new springs in no time. It was worth the money saved in time and was a lot less painful. I recommend this tool unreservedly.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Very expensive

Does the job well for engine parts

I had an old "made in the USA" standard "C-Clamp" type compressor that you can rent at a specialty tool store and it didn't come close to compress my 300-pound springs without squeaking, bending, or decentering. I was about to go to the store and just ask them to remove the springs but I stumbled across this gem for about the same price the machine was supposed to charge me and that way I can save on the tooling. It quickly helped my old 300lb springs and my new 400lb springs didn't work…

  • Decent performance
Cons

Save time on engine parts

This tool works great. It's durable, easy to set up and easy to use. The handle is long enough to provide good leverage and it kinda locks in a compressed position, but I wouldn't trust it to stay compressed without additional pressure on the handle from the user. One thing to be wary of when you first apply force to the grip to begin compressing the spring is there is some resistance to pulling the spring cover off the detents so that when you let go it will there is a sudden release. It is…

Pros
  • Work hands-free
Cons
  • Almost everything is in order

Not fixed in "compressed " position

Bought to replace valve springs on some BBC heads. The spring compressor works great, except the handle doesn't "lock" very well in the compressed position. You can tell the cam is trying to "lock" in the compressed position and I've gotten it to stay in place once or twice. Most of the time, the spring tension isn't locked at all (allowing you to operate the valve latches with just one hand) or the lever arm is momentary, causing the valve springs to loosen very quickly without warning. This…
