Cheap, functional. - Electric Drill Parts & Accessories

Bought for use with Port Freight Lathe (12 x 36 inch .75hp model) so my standards here are clearly not professional. That's enough for beginners/hobby lathes. On my budget rig I see diameter variations from 1/32" to 1/16" with a ½" countersink, but that's most likely my lathe, not this chuck. No complaints from this guy, really good, I'll probably buy another one here soon for my drill press.

Doesn't fit properly on mandrel

The first one I received didn't fit properly on the end of the JT33 mandrel. If I pressed by hand, I could rock the mandrel. When landing with a skin hammer, the cartridge's concentricity was 0.025 inch. I sent it back and got a replacement with the exact same problem. There is some deviation between the JT33 mandrel and the JT33 hole in the chuck. I am sending the second one back and will look elsewhere for a properly made cartridge and mandrel.

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • There are new competitors

Poor quality of drill parts and accessories

Very poor workmanship of this drill chuck. It doesn't run smoothly when set. Very poor finish as some areas are not sanded smooth. This chuck comes with a #2 Morris taper for my lathe and has a threaded hole in the "bottom" for a threaded rod to attach to the lathe. The hole was cut at an angle, not straight. If you pull the tongue taut, it will move off center and vibrate/wobble. Waste of money because you can't use this on a lathe if you want a nice finished project.

Pros
  • Inspires confidence
Cons
  • Difficult to say

Overall it was a decent lathe chuck

True, I don't drill hard on my lathe. I'll use my own drill press for this, of course, but sometimes it's easier to do light to moderate turns with a (usually) forstner bit while the wood is still on the lathe. Or I also drill pilot holes in it before it goes into the press for larger drill bits. Somehow when I go from the lathe to the press if I don't drill a pilot hole while still on the lathe I seem to be slightly off center on the press. I'm going crazy so having the pilot hole already in…

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance

  • Null

Poor manufacture, loose tolerances and generally poor product

EDIT: This product will inevitably fall apart during use. That happened to me and I was lucky enough to be alive afterwards. If you value your body and your life, do not purchase or use this product or its many clones. So, I only had problems with this cartridge. 1.) Morse taper is not true. This thing is just gonna fall out of my tailstock. It won't stay in place when you reverse the drill and will tilt down under gravity, meaning your drills won't center. If your drill is not centered and you
