Actually bought four of these for my bookshelves. Just use the rivet finder and find the rivet somewhere behind the bookshelf. The center would be better, but it doesn't matter. From the top of the bookshelf, go down a few inches and mark a spot exactly in the middle of the shelf. This means that the straps can be hidden.
