This product is exactly the same as the brass snap hooks that Coach sold with his wallet years ago, which were $10 or $15 at the time. I know this because I've been using one of the older versions of Coach for over 15 years. I wanted another for a set of keys and couldn't find one anywhere, including Home Depot, which oddly enough only sold really crappy silver tone that was made in China and didn't lock smoothly (took it back for a refund). This is a very strong, heavy and strong carabiner.

I bought two of these release carabiners to easily attach my wife and paddle line to our kayaks. We paddled nearly 100 miles in brackish water, mostly fresh and mostly salt water, and additionally practiced self-rescue (ie, turning around) in a chlorinated salt pool. After a quick fresh water rinse after each ride and a spray of WD-40 every few rides, they work great (and develop a nice patina). I can easily see how these clips have served me faithfully for decades.
